Embellished Wreaths

 6 ½ inch unfinished

Colors

This block uses two colors.

1.       Color one is any shade of green print or plaid.  This is a Christmas block so Holiday fabrics are appropriate.

2.       Color two is a yellow print or solid.

Cut

4 – 2 ½ inch squares from the green fabric.

2 – 2 7/8 inch squares from the yellow fabric.

2 – 2 7/8 inch squares from the green fabric

1 – 2 ½ inch square yellow.

Piece

1.      Lay the yellow and green squares right side together with the lighter fabric on top.

2.      Draw diagonal lines across the yellow squares.

3.      Sew a ¼ inch from either side of the diagonal line.

4.      Cut on the diagonal line and you have 2 half square triangles.

5.      Press seams to the darker fabric

6.      Repeat steps 1 through 3 for the other yellow and green squares.

7.        Sew the finished squares together like a nine patch as indicated in the picture above.  Press the center row seams to the inside and other rows  to the outside so the rows will butt together.

Embellish

I finished my sample with red sashing and embellished it with netting, beads, rick rack, and buttons.  This is good place to use up some of those pretty little things we collect but it needs to be done after the blocks are sewn together.
