Halloween Windows

Attic Windows Half Log Cabin Block

9 ½ inch unfinished

Colors

  1. A Novelty print with anything that reminds you of Halloween.  Black cats, pumpkins, witches, dead trees, haunted houses, spider webs,  spiders, etc.
  2. It’s time to dig into those scraps again.  You need a selection of very dark fabrics. Think dark and foreboding for these dark fabrics.  Black, dark gray, or dark green will work.
  3. A selection of very bright orange fabrics.   Did out those gay fluorescents and hot oranges.

Note - Uses a selection of different colors in each block.  For example don’t use various fabrics that are the same colors like all blues or all greens.

Cut

3 - 2 inch strips from three different very bright orange fabrics.

1 – 2 inch strip from the very dark fabric.

3 – 2 ½ inch strips of the very dark fabrics.

1 – 3 ½ inch square of the Novelty fabric.  Center the motif in the square and don’t forget that the seam allowance will cut of ¼ inch on each side.

Piece

1.      Sort your strips by length and width.  It helps to lay them out as they will be used.  Use the picture as a guide.

2.      Sew the square to the shortest 2-inch wide strip.

3.      Sew the shortest 2-½ inch strip to the square and the first strip.

4.      Sew the middle size 2-inch strip to the first 2-inch strip.

5.      Sew the middle size 2-½ inch strip to the first 2-½ inch strip.

6.      Sew the last bright colored 2-inch strip to the previous 2-inch strip.

7.      Sew the last 2-½ inch strip to the previous 2-½ inch strip.

8.      Sew the dark 2-inch strip to the previous bright 2-inch strip.

Note – Making the last 2-inch strip from a dark fabric creates the attic window affect.
