JROTC - Description
The United States Army Junior Reserve Officers Training
Corps originated as part of the National Defense Act of 1916. The principal
reason for maintaining national programs of military training for young citizens
attending school was validated during congressional hearings preceeding the
passage of the ROTC Vitalization Act of 1964.
The primary purpose of the U.S. Army JROTC Program is to help young people
become better citizens and to teach them how to lead.
Participation in the program will involve a combination of practical and
fundamental skill training in which cadets learn how to follow, and how to
work together as a team. Cadets study human behavior, leadership, the
development of citizenship, improve individual communication skills, develop
an awareness of the importance of physical conditiioning, learn to administer
first aid, to include cardio-puliminary resuscitation. The acquisition
of these skills leads to a better understanding of the meaning of patriotism
and citizenship.
