The Ladies Aid Society of the M. E. church met at the home of Mrs. N. Preston ... and the following officers were elected for the ensuing year. Pres. Mrs. V. A. Northrop, Vice, Mrs. R. E. Jones, Second Vice Pres. Mrs. F. Graves, Sec. Mrs. F. Clark, Treas. retained. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. J. H. Ashby next Wednesday afternoon.

We were pleased to see so many people out to our program last Friday. vol. XI no.44October 10, page "2" col 1 Last Saturday night Virgil Salmon struck Harry Jones in the face which made an ugly looking wound. Harry was taken to Randolph where the wound was dressed. Virgil was arrested, on a charge of Assault. The case came up in Judge Barrows Court Monday morning at ten o'clock, when the County Attorney P. F. O'Gara appeared for the state and Attorney Willy, of Randolph, for the defendant. After some preliminaries the defendant plead guilty to the charge and paid $10 and cost which amounted in all to about $30. This may be a lesson to some of our hasty young men.

Sunday evening while Mrs. Emily Winget was at church some one went into her house ...
Sunday evening while Wm. Soost was returning from Bloomfield with his family and mother, when near the Elkhorn ranch he noticed some fellows standing close to the road and after he passed them his mother cried out and fell over in the car, upon investigation it was found that she had been struck on the lower jaw with some blunt instrument. Mr. Soost seems to think that one of the parties standing by the road side might have thrown a hard clod of dirt or something else. It probably would not be very healt[h]y for the parties if they were known.

Paul Berg was hurt in the knee Tuesday morning by falling on the sidewalk and running a nail into it. A doctor who happened to be in town dressed the wound.
A farewell reception was tendered Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Runyon, at their home last evening, by their many friends of Magnet and vicinity. They will leave for their new home at Hay Springs next Tuesday. The Rev. Butler, of Newcastle, ... The Rev. is an old pioneer minister in North east Nebraska.

November 7, page "2" col 2Election Pick Ups Good morning Mr. President elect Wilson.
Tuesday was a fine day for election.
There were about ten absent voters in this precinct.
Congressman Dan Stephene ran 12 votes ahead of his ticket in this precinct,
Frank Furcess [Furness?] won out over Charley Magmurson [Magnuson?] for precinct assessor by a vote of 78 to 68.
J. V. Fletcher will be our road "boss" for another year.
Carroll defeated Furley for the office of county commissioner in this precinct.
W. Schwerin carried the precinct over Henry Korff, for county representative, by a vote of 76 to 52.
Dan Stephens run like a house a fire in this precinct. Mr. Stephens made good in Congress the past year and the people were willing to send him back.
Shallenberger made a very poor race for U. S. senator against G. W. Norris.
Bert Ready seemed to be the choice of the voters for the office of county judge.
The state and national ticket run about an even race.
J. H. Baker captured the justice of the peace plum.
Theo Roher and Jack Baker seemed to be the most prominent replublicans* in Magnet Tuesday.
Theo Roher and Ed Fager were elected constables to fill vacancies.
Elmer Robinson carried off the honors of county assessor.
There were 72 votes cast to do away with the office of county assessor and 23 votes to retain it.
The county vote on the Presidential electors reads something like this: Taft 714, Wilson 1321(garbled) and Roosevelt 1047 the State ticket like this: Norris United States Senate 1575, Sheallenberger* 1624, Aldrich for governor 1610, Moorehead 1614, for Congress Cook 1500, Stephens 1654, for county representative Schwerin 1267, Korff 1660, for county judge Ready 1403, Bryant 1755, for assessor Robinson 1709, Weibelhause 1608, for commissioner Farley 1565, Carroll 1615, and when you come to study the above results they look a little bit queer.

Word has been received by friends here, that Guy Jones , while out hunting, recently, shot one of his arms so bad that it is thought amputation will be necessary to save his life. He is the third son of W. F. Jones formaly* of this place.

Mr. J. E. W. Eckstrom, who with his family has occupied the B. Peterson residence in the west part of town the past year informs us that he has rented a farm in the Magnet neighborhood and expects to move into the same in the spring. Mr. Eckstrom last summer bought a farm in Minnesota but has concluded that Nebraska is good enough for him. He will not move onto his Minnesota farm but will improve it and sell it again when a favorable opportunity presents itself.

Pete Dawson received a telegram a few days ago notifying him that a son-in-law , E. T. Crellen, of Pender had underwent an opperation* for gall stones, at a hospital in Om[a]ha. The opperation* was quite successful.
Two fires started in town this week and no protection. It is getting pretty cold now and fire has been kindled in every stove in town and the utmost caution should prevail in the care of them, or we may be left some of these ?ge days without any place to lay our heads. We do not understand the conditions of our water system, but we do wish they would hurry it up a little.

The little seven days old bebe of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hansen passed out of this life about 5, o'clock Thursday afternoon. The little one had been sick only a few hours all that could be done was done for the little one but to no avail. After a short service at the home, conducted by Rev. Martin, of Wausa, the little bebe was laid to rest in the Magnet Cemetery. The MAIL joins with the friends of the bereft parents in extending condolence to the loss of their dear one. Those from Out of town who attended the funeral of the little Hansen bebe, was Mr. and Mrs. John Henkel and two little daughters of South Omaha and Carl Hekel, of Bloomfield.

Frank Furness was a business visitor to Sioux City Friday and Saturday.
Our railway agent V. A. Northrop took the early train Tuesday for Chicago, Ill, to visit with a brother who is sick in a hospital at that place. Mr. E. H. Schemel is holding down the agency chair during Mr. Northrop's absence.
TEN YEARS OLD This is the 10th year that the Magnet MAIL has been in existence. In December 1902 Barney Smith, now of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Harry Hammond, formly of Randolph, but now of Cottonwood South Dakota, started the MAIL and had it printed at Randolph, in THE RANDOLPH REPORTERS office, of which Mr. Hammond was editor, and was sent to Magnet by express and distributed through the Post Office. In the summer of 1904 Barney Smith sold his interest to J. C. Moore, and in the winter of 1906 W. H. Gibson of Wayne bought the right to publish the MAIL and moved his plant[,] the old WAYNE REPUBLICAN, to Magnet, and run the paper off here for a year when he sold to Russell Williams who run it less than a year and sold it to J. C. Moore, the present owner and publisher. We have did our best to run the MAIL, to please the patrons in every way possibly and it is our aim to continue to serve you to the best of our ability.
We thank one and all of our patrons for their liberal patronage and with your help will continue to boost for a better Magnet and vicinity. We have a good town and let us all join in making it one of the best in the state.

Theo Larsen took the early train Tuesday for South-western Colorado to look up a home in that part. T. A. Anthony accompanied him. They will be joined at Norfolk by Theo's brother Chris of Lynch.
Frank Runyon, who has been working on J. E. Gilmore's new barn for a few weeks tried to "shoot the shoots" from the roof one morning last week. He was brushing the snow off the shingles when his feet went out from under him and he landed on the ground some twenty feet below, shooting entirely over the scaffolding at the side of the building. He says the fall never hurt him a bit, but he has one stiff leg caused from stopping too sudden. - HAY SPRINGS NEWS.

A deal was consum[m]ated Friday wher[e]in Rob Dawson became the possessor of the Magnet meat market and the Ernest Halleen residence property and Ernest became the owner of a fine quarter section farm in Colorado formaly* owned by Dawson.
A Farm Sale Andy Olson will hold a farm Sale on the 7, day of January, 1912. There will be sold at this Sale, Horses, Cattle, Hogs, Farm Machinery and everything will be sold. ... One mile east of Magnet.
