in 1933. Jess Henrickson had it but only Near Beer was sold. Jack Chrisman was the one who had the first beer license.

In 1902 a telephone office was built by Pete Sandberg and is still standing. The last owner of the telephone was Frank Termulhlen. He bought it from Pete Sandberg in 1944 when Mr. and Mrs. Manzer were living there and running the office. Tippie Slagle was a hired operator for Mrs. Termulhlen, also Goldie Koehler helped out in later years. Mr. Termulhlen also owned a phone line north of Randolph and repaired lines and phones for the farmers. He received a plaque award from the Independent Companies for 20 years of ownership. Sold out to the dial system in 1967.

The first school house was out of Magnet one half mile east where Ralph Westadt lives now. This is the one that was built before the town. It was later moved into town. Some folks remember having classes in the hotel for a short time. In 1903 a new two story building was built which is in its present place now. The school had ten grades by 1916, then in 1917 they added the 11th and the next year they added the 12th. Had twelve grades up to 1956. Then the high school was closed and the high school kids went to Wausa or Randolph. School from kindergarten to 8th grade continued. The top floor was removed in 1961 and made a one story building and dug a basement and put in rest rooms in 1958. In the fall of 1974 it was voted on that the 7th and 8th grades would go to Wausa to school. At this time the school has kindergarten thru sixth grades and have one teacher, which is Mrs. John Boyle from 0smond.

The first school reunion was held at the Magnet School on Sunday, Aug. 19, 1973 from 1:30 until 5:30 p.m. Light refreshments were served. It was a very successful reunion. The second reunion is planned for July 18, 1976, for our Bi-Centennial year.
