Peter Stoyanov |

Peter Stoyanov was
elected as President of the Republic of Bulgaria in November 1996.
Born in Plovdiv in 1952, he graduated from high school there and studied
law at Sofia University.
He started working as a lawyer, before integrating the
Ministry of Justice as Deputy Justice Minister, after being recommended
by UDF high-functionaries.
At the Ministry of Justice,
Stoyanov was responsible for integrating the norms of European law into the Bulgarian
legal system. |

The Prime Minister was born on December 23, 1949 in Sofia. He
graduated from the Economics Institute with flying colors and then completed a course in
mathematics at Sofia University. |

Ilia Pavlov is
today the most famous business man in Bulgaria as well as one of the richest man. He is at
the head of 'Multigroup' a conglomerate dealing with all sectors of economy. He started
doing business just before the democratic changes in Bulgaria.
He graduated from the High Institute for Physical
Culture, now called the National Sports Academy, and followed with a degree in journalism.
He also competed in wrestling matches.
According to the press, he was once married to the
daughter of a former military intelligence counter-espionage boss. This may explain his
numerous political connections, and his troubles with the anti-corruption forces of the
police are one of the favorite topics of the local press. |
