Hidden Lake
The Logan Pass scene was also spectacular (and crowded!), and after a car picnic lunch (it was so windy!), we geared up for the Hidden Lake trail.  First the trail rose steeply up a boardwalk, then across a long snowfied, through a narrow snow pass to the top -- still somewhat windy, but even more spectacular scenery.  Mountain goats with babies followed us to the breathtaking overlook, perhaps looking for lunch.  We spied another group of goats in a more natural location, w-a-y-y-y-y up on an overlooking peak.  While the return hike was downhill and much easier, this was still a taxing hike.  Back in the car, the descent provided still more great views.  After the 'Loop', Carol lost the road's inside track , but the remainder was an easy drive.  At Lake McDonald, we checked into our nice (but small!) cabin, cleaned up and ate a refreshingly good dinner.  After dinner, we jumped on the
7 pm boat tour of the lake.  In spite of an insipid ranger talk and no scope-able wildlife, we enjoyed the ride.  Afterwards, we ate some ice cream on the shore as the sun dropped behind the mountains.  Our feet were tired, but what a great day!
