                           The Haz-Mat Technician Course.


This is a course presented by the Ohio State Fire Academy.

It is intended to inform the participants how to best manage a Hazardous Materials incident.
One key focus of the instruction was that this information in no way certifies you as an expert,
nor is it in any way a certification at all!

It is only by your jurisdiction choosing to recognize you as a technician after taking this course that makes you a technician, NOT the state of Ohio.

Therefore Neither the State of Ohio, it's representitives or the instructors of the course are not liable for the death(s) you cause including but not limited to your own.

Whether by faulty judgement, improper action,  misidentification of a substance or by doing everything by the book and everyone dies anyway!

It is your Fault Mr Technician...Big shot!

I choose to do it anyway.

When I was asked why, I thought about it and here's my answer.

I am choosing to be the one who will try to keep the people I work with at my Fire department and E.M.S. service out of harms way when ever I can.
I will do this to the best of my ability by having a functional knowledge and training in the management of dangerous and hazardous incidents involving Chemical, Nuclear and Biological contaminants.
I will not alow entry to these situations by untrained personel and civilians. When resources are available I will act as a member of a Team working toward the common goal of protecting Life, the environment, and valuable property when it is feasable.

That was my answer,
I guess I could have just said I would do it because no one else wanted to, but that wouldn't exactly be true.

I could have said I would do it because I would be good at it but that would not have said enough.

Maybe I could have said I don't trust the Tech we have on our Department with anything especially not My life. but that would have been true and still not have said enough.

So there it is.

Now that I am done with the class

Do I feel I am an expert?     NO.
Am I a Tech?    Yes,
Will I be Good at it?   Yes? (I hope so)

Am I ready?  Sure.... why not?

Oh by the way I got my State of Ohio E.M.T.-P card in the mail today and it makes me an Official paramedic!

Now that I am a paramedic.

Do I feel I am an expert ?     NO.
Am I a Medic ?    Yes,
Will I be Good at it ?   Yes? (I hope so)

Am I ready?  Sure.... why not?
