                                          Trauma~Rama

                                                Friday.
Ken called off and I started the day working with Noel.
He was able to stay until about four in the afternoon and then it was Herb for a while. While working with these two partners the day was tame, a little fall here a little chest pain there and a transport to Cleveland. Sometime after six o'clock after several page-out's for coverage and no one calling back Florence was talked into working.

Here is where it gets interesting.
Brian is a Medic,Florence is a basic (Ken is a Medic but absent)
I am almost a Medic. Behner is almost a medic...No wait Mike Behner is now as of today a Card carrying Medic!
and for the rest of this shift My partner.

O.K. now I am confident in myself and I have always believed in Behner I have stated on several occasions that he would be a "good soldier".
Today I had to put up or shut up and so did he!

We were dispatched to a medical call and I let Behner loose on the City on his First Call as a Medic.
He did fine.

And now for the Trauma~Rama!

We were sent to the intersection of Furnace and West River for a bicycle accident. The pt was a 32 year old female who proved that drinking and riding don't mix. She had a minor facial injury and some back pain. It was a good call,  it was an excercise in basic-B.T.L.S.  Mike did fine. He was obviously nervous but he pulled through.

Then at around two in the morning we were dispatched on a car vs. bike accident, When we pulled up on scene with Fire we saw that it was a hit and run car vs. Motorcycle. Which left the 35 year old male driver of the motorcycle's Left leg completely entangled in the rear of the Bike!
He was A+Ox3 with no other life threat's apparent.
I directed the Firfighter beside me to control C-Spine and asked another to retrieve the immobilization equiptment as I continued the primary assessment. Mike handed me a NRB and we placed the pt on oxygen. I told Mike to go to the bus and prepare to start a couple of I.V.'s and advise med control of our current situation, while I worked with Fire to immobilize the pt.
As the back board arrived we readied to roll the patient to the board, on our first attempt we were unable to move him because his leg was still caught on something although it looked as if it were free!
I reached under his leg and could feel what could only be the turn signal light. I followed up it with my fingers until I found the end and slipped the leg over it, at this point I realized my hand was six or seven inches (to my wrist)  deep into another human beings leg where his bone was supposed to be. But his bone was sticking straight up into the night!
              oh well.
As I did this we rolled him onto the board and Mike (who I thought was at the bus) handed me a blanket to pad the leg in place on the board.
We put the patient on the cot and then into the bus. Mike attempted a large bore I.V. and I contacted the E.M.H. I advised them of the pt's condition and the situation. We asked for an order for Morphine and were given approval for 4mg. and Dr.C asked if our pt was a Police officer? (He wasn't) We initiated transport and after the line was in Mike pushed the M.S. .
As we were transporting I heard 92 was on the scene of a Police officer who had been dragged 300 feet.
93 was on their way to an M.V.C. 2 blocks from the Hospital.
370 was also on their way to that crash! (Brian doesn't call for a second squad with out a reason!)
We were able to transfer our patient to the hospital and before we really had a chance to clean-up we went to 93's scene. They had a 2 car crash with 6 patients. 1 or more unconscious. I went to the driver of car #2 who was a 40ish female who did appear to have some E.T.O.H. on board.
She was denying having been in this accident. Although she was complaining of neck and back pain.
She was not a Lady if you know what I mean,
Calling all of us who were trying to help "Idiots" and "Annoying Little Fucks!"
We immobilized her and transported her to the Hospital where she continued to deny having been inolved in the accident.
She was then introduced to Security and E.P.D. who she called "Annoying Fucking Idiots"
We also transported the driver of car #1 a 21 yo/ female  who was "walking wounded"
I ordered her not to speak to or listen to the other patient,
she was a Lady about it and the ride was uneventful.

At around 3:30am Lifeflight arrived to pick up the motorcyclist.
He will probably loose his leg.

Three hours after it all started we were still writing reports!

and at 8am we made a special trip to the hospital for that Morphine.

Fun Fun Fun till the mornin' comes
