Saturday

Today I arrived at work
with a great deal of anticipation
for this evening.
My only hope was that the day would go well
and that My coverage would show up on time.
Beacuse tonight I was leaving work to see
Moxy Fruvous
in the last show of their north american tour.
It was an eight o'clock performance
at Finney Chapel in oberlin.
Dawn, Glen and I
went to the show which
was as good a show as I  expected
I have seen Moxy Fruvous perform
about 5 or 6 times and I have never been Disapointed.

So you can see why I was anxious.

At 9 am ken and I were sent to post as First aide
for a High School Cross Country running event ,
on the campus of Lorain Community College.
The weather was wrong for this event
it was hot
(high 80's) and humid(over 80%)
which lead all of the medical support
to anticipate lots of exausted patients.
not to mention the possible injuries.

We treated about seven or so and transported one.

The one we transported was a 15 year old male
who worked way to hard in this race
and colapsed fifty feet short of the finish.
He was Hypotensive,Tachycardic, and had an altered L.O.C.
we were working with an Athletic trainer named Laura
who knows her stuff and
is familiar with most of these student athletes.
Our pt. was kid fell-out short of the line
he looked worse than he was,
he was quickly attended to by Laura
(whithin 30 seconds)
and less than a minute later we were by his side.

(but is this good enough? Not if you ask the Parent / "I'm a physician" )
(so I can bark out orders and you WILL listen but-insky asshole who was on scene
)

Now I am not saying that help
from a trained Medical Professional
isn't wanted or appreciated
However,
Do
NOT Stand there and tell me what to do !
Do you honestly expect me to roll over
and follow your orders ?
because you claim to be a doctor or nurse or whatever!

There are rules and Guidelines governing
who can intervene in E.M.S.

Unless you are a doctor
(or an ER nurse)
from My med control hospital
and / or I know you,
I will not solicit your help

or
If you feel you need to help.
First,
You will need to distract me from patient care
so you can convince me
that I need your help.
which I have not solicited !

I will probably deny need for your help and say"Thank you."
( "Thank you" in this case is something I say in place of  "Thank you" , or  "this pt doesn't need and ambulance no less a doctor... this is not that bad ")
(but if I have to say it twice what it means is: "Go Away Asshole!" or "Don't make me have them arrest you")

In the event I do accept your offer for  help
you have a few responsibilities to meet.

You must not only be a "Physician"
You should  an E.R. doctor ,
(or specialist related to this patients condition ie: orthopedic surgeon when the pt has a fracture.)
(Lifeflight Medic/nurse/doctor with proof , or Medic/Nurse/Doctor whom I know.)

Then, if you are able to present your credentials to me
(now not later)
and are preparred to render care
(not tell me what to do)
then accompany this patient
all the way to the hospital
in my ambulance,
(not following in your car)
while only procedures that are allowed
in an ambulance are performed.
(which I might add do not require Physician presence)

Then you can help.

If you are unwilling or unable to meet these requirements:
it makes me ask questions...
Why did you open your mouth in the first place?
What did you think you were going to accomplish?.

I will say"Thank you."
(at this point you should go away)
if not I will say
"I said Thank You!"
if you still don't get the message
the third time I address you
it comes out as intended.

"Get out of my fucking face Asshole ! "
(if this don't work I will have you arrested.)

This doctor only got one
"Thank you."

His wife got the second!
(she was a "doctor" too or doctor by proxy I guess)

This patient needed an ambulance and he got one.
as well as oxygen and an I.V. .
He was Alert and oriented by the time we arrived at the hospital but he was a little "woozy" for a while.

After that ken and I went over to Herb's House.
I told him he was probably going to get a complaint.
then I told him the story. he was not too concerned,
Did one more quick call and I was out on time...

After the Concert I went back to work.
I was able to sleep through the night till 6:30 am .

We had a call for a woman with back pain,
no big deal except...
Now I have back pain.
(if you know what I mean)

Good night
