1-30-2000 A-shift.
The shift started off with a Mighty roar of the turbo diesel powered Monkey Bus which was offset by the awful screetch as the side door was nearly  ripped off !
You see.
When my partner was pulling out of the garage the door which appeared closed swung open and got wedged in the opening of the garage door.Which rendered the bus O.O.S
(OUT OF SERVICE)
And moved us into the Back-up truck"92"
everyone hates this truck because it is a van style ambulance, small on the out side and smaller on the inside.

(I don't mind this truck...She was my first...Ambulance)

If this was not bad enough we had a trip to Cleveland pending

A patient was being admitted to the Cleveland Clinic and needed to get there asap.
The bonus is that on the way back from Cleveland I can stop at one of my favorite restaurants for lunch. White Castle!
When We returned to The city there Was (of course) another transport pending. This time a shorter one to Lorain.
After that
A lull.

Then an Mvc. A mini van hit a park ranger's S.U.V.
no serious injury we treated and  transported the Park Ranger.
He was later discharged.

A couple of  calls/transports later
There was another lull
and more snow.
Then the Rams won the game.
There were a few more calls,
but I am too tired to remember the details...
I was feeling A little under the weather and desperately hoped to sleep through the night.

But first another call at 12:29am

I went to sleep at 1:30 am Last-up!
3:03 am Wake up!
Mike the dispatcher(and my former partner)
says an address which I barely comprehend then these words

"G.S.W. Head,possibly self inflicted"

It's been a while since my last shooting
Fire responded with us and there were more personel than usual.
at the time we didn't think much of it except to wonder why so many and the asst. chief?

We arrived on scene and were met at the door by P.D.
he said
"crime scene possibly d.o.a. only 1 inside untill we need more"
we were cancelled and left scene about 2 minutes later

A couple of hours later they called for body removal and 93 was up.

The story I got from the 93 crew was as they were on scene waiting to be allowed to touch the body the police officer asked if they knew him?
thinking it might be a regular customer 93 replied "huh? who is he?"

P.D.said yeah he's on the fire dept.
93 said "which one?"
P.D. said Elyria,he worked out of (station) 3
93 said"yeah we must know him if he's on the fire dept."
P.D. said "his name's Dale"
(although we may not know each other intimately but we work together)
as 93 was finishing the story I was dispatched on another call
It's 8:20 am
(shift ends in 10 minutes)

80 year old female,Short of breath
this was routine and only lengthened my shift by 1/2 hour
which don't really bother me
especially if we help someone.

By the time I returned to the station 93 was gone and
I didn't hear the rest of the story.

Maybe on My Next-A

Good nite.
