At a cost of €4.8 million, the Santo António training complex was completed in the summer of 2004. Built adjacent to the Campo da Imaculada Conceição, the venue for the Marítimo B team’s home games, is the all-weather synthetic field which is used for training sessions.

The second part of the 14 month project was the construction of the main building, which houses a number of offices for the football department, the directors, the president, the medical department and the coaching staffs’ office. A number of training facilities are also housed in this building, including changing rooms, fitness gymnasium and massage and sauna facilities. Press conference rooms and meeting rooms are also located in the building which also has a new car park located behind the main building.

With the first two parts of the Sports Complex completed and available for use, construction of the third and final part of the Sports Complex will begin shortly. This will include the construction of a multi-sport arena for the use of Marítimo’s other sporting departments such as Basketball and Handball. Three swimming pools, as well as a 36 room hotel for the players and staff and a restaurant is also part of the new construction.

The new Sports Complex is part of the clubs plan to bring Marítimo into the 21st Century with new infrastructure and modern facilities for the players and staff. Following the full completion of the Sports Complex, it is hoped that the club, and the Madeiran government, will turn their attentions to fulfilling the promise of a new, modern, up-to-date stadium.
