| Having started his career in his native Brazil with a brief spell at Swiss club Grasshopper, Pena was signed by Porto in 2000 as a replacement for Mário Jardel, who had departed to Turkish club Galatasaray. He finished he first season as the league's top goalscorer with 22 goals in 29 games, helping Porto win the Taça de Portugal, beating Marítimo in the final and scoring the first of two goals. Despite his fantastic first season, Pena never reproduced the same form again, and was loaned out to Strasbourg in 2002 and spent last season on loan at Sporting Braga, where he scored 7 goals in 26 games. Signed on the last day of the transfer window this summer, Pena will spend the season on loan at the verde-rubros, adding extra strength to Marítimo's attack. |
