After a seven year long feud, both the directors of Benfica and Marítimo have come to a suitable agreement over the transfer of defensive midfielder Tiago which took place during the 1996/1997 season.

The midfielder, now playing for Boavista, rescinded his contract with the verde-rubros and signed for Benfica, claiming that he needed to leave the islands because if his fear of flying. However Rui Fontes, Marítimo’s President at the time, refused to accept his recession and demanded that Benfica pay the full transfer fee, which of course Benfica have yet to pay.

After years of quarrelling between the two clubs, Marítimo President, Carlos Pereira, and his
Benfica counterpart Luís Filipe Vieira, have come to an agreement, with the directors of Benfica agreeing to compensate Marítimo, paying the money in seasonal installations, to a total of around €1 Million.

Since signing for Benfica, Tiago has played for CD Tenerife, União Leira, FC Porto, União Leiria again, and now he is back in Oport playing for Boavista.
