A stalwart at the back, Mitchell was also the club's second leading goalscorer last term with 6 goals, using his exceptional aerial ability to net all six.

Starting his career with Dutch amateur club Brummen, Mitchell joined the youth team of PSV Eindhoven, and turned professional in 1989. Sent out on loan to lower league clubs NEC and Sparta Rotterdam, it wasn't until his return to PSV, that his talents were recognised. Bobby Robson, the former Porto manager, gave Mitchell a starting place alongside such greats as Ronaldo, Romario, Luc Nilis and Gerald Vanenburg.

Following a move to Motherwell in Scotland, and a spell back in his homeland with FC Utrecht, Mitchell came to Madeira as an unkown in 2001. He soon became a fans favourite and earned the respect of football fans across Portugal. 3 years on, Mitchell is recognised as one of the best defenders in the Superliga, having played over 90 games for the verde-rubros, scoring a great tally of 15 goals, all as a defender!!!
