The book studies the Sanskrit Mahakavyas produced in Kerala in the light of the features of this genre of literature as defined by by the rhetoricians from Bhamaha to Visvantha.
The author identifies about forty Mahakavyas that originated in Kerala and of this some are very rare, exist only as manuscripts or are known to us only through references and citations. The works like Sitaharana, Yadunathacarita, Bharatasangraha, Pandavacarita, Ramavarmakavya, Vasudevacarita, Nayakabharana, and Srividyadhirajavijaya covered by this book are available only as manuscripts and the study vindicates the need for their publication and detailed studies on them. The Mahakavyas covered include, Literary Mahakavyas, Grammatical Mahakavyas, Ymaka Mahakavyas and Historical Mahakavyas, and are surveyd these works with great care and critical acumen.
