Power/Explosiveness vs. Smooth/Conservative
To most people who have never climbed, all of climbing appears to be a very harse, rough edged sport that could never be done smoothly or gently. But some climbers make routes look like ballet routines, while others scream like beast as they literlly lunge from hold to hold. Which way is better?
- Power Climbing
Pros
Power climbing promotes speed, strength, and quickness of mind. The eye's are highly fine tuned to spot the smallest fingernail hold imaginable, the body is tuned enough to hold on what ever the case, and the mind is as strong as steel.
Cons
Power climbing deters patience. If a hold can not be reached the first time, determination is lost, inovation and creativity lag, and the climber is left as a tired hunk of muscle.
- Conservative Climbing
Pros
Conservative climbing is healthier for the joints and muscles and exercises the creativity of the mind. The imagination flourishes with ideas to move the body.
Cons
Conservative climbing takes longer. Muscles must have stamina, the mind must have patience and persistance.
