Review the letter when you have finished typing - Go to the Standard Toolbar and click on the button showing a magnifying glass on top of a blank piece of paper to review the layout of your letter. No changes can be made while you are in this move. Go to the page layout buttons at the lower left of the screen and click on the mode you used to type the letter, either Normal or Print Layout View*. You can now make changes, e.g.: If your letter is too long to fit nicely, go to File, click on Page Setup and reduce your margins. (*Note: In earlier versions of Word, deselect the magnifying glass button to return to the letter.) Do you want to check your spelling and/or grammar before printing? - Go up to the Standard Toolbar and click on the button with a check mark under the letters ABC. - The letter will be scanned for errors from the beginning. Recommendations are made, but you decide what and whether changes should be made. Would you like to put a word or phrase in italics? in bold? Underlined? - Place your cursor in front of or at the end of the word or phrase. To select it, click and hold the button while dragging the mouse across the word or phrase. Release the button. - Go up to the Formatting Toolbar and select the letter I. The word or phrase will appear in italics. Follow the same procedure if you wish to put a word or phrase in bold type by selecting the B. The same procedure holds true if you wish to underline a word or phrase, this time selecting the U. And you may use all three features by selecting the word or phrase and then clicking the B, I and U. Remember to de-select the buttons before continuing to type. Would you like to insert something to catch your recipients eye? Use a TEXT BOX. - On the tool bar below your document (usually) you will see a white square box with the letter A in the upper left hand corner. This is the Text Box button. Click on it. |
