| HOW TO MAKE A COMPOSITE Necessary Equipment: A camera 2.0 meg or better Computer with lots of Ram Memory Pictures on Memory Card, CD, or saved in a file A Proof Sheet of pictures you are going to use A computer program capable of putting several pictures on a page (Print Shop Pro, Version 20 is the latest edition Especially good for beginners Good Photo Paper (Jeff Austin recommends Kodak PP-1-A. It is double-sided, good for booklets and about $18.00 for 100 sheets at Sams Club) Lots of patience Procedure Sequence: - Pick out the pictures and file numbers you are going to use. Olympus has the best program for this. - Print a proof page - Go to Insert at the top of page. Select Import. Select Browse and go where your pictures are stored. - Select a picture and reduce its size by pulling the corner boxes toward the center of the picture until it is about 1/8th its size. - Repeat this procedure for every picture you want in the composite. - If a picture needs modifying, right click and select Photo Workshop. The topics are self-explanatory. This is where you trace around a figure, change colors, crop a picture, eliminate Red Eye, brush effects, and fix flaws. Right Click this picture and go to Special Effects and you can feather the edges of your picture. - Also, Right Click this picture and select Layering. Tell the computer whether you want the picture in front or in back. - When arranging your pictures, dont make them too small, maybe 2x3. Plan on using blank spaces, or uninteresting parts of the photo for overlapping (Layering). - Leave spaces for Titles, Names, or explanations. - When adding text, go to Text on the left hand column. Select your text format, size, and B (bold) from the top of computer. You will get a square with boxes at the sides and corners. Pull the box to the size you want and then click outside the box. If you want to Move the Text Click in the box and drag it where you want it to be. - If your text cannot be seen because of the colors in the picture, go to the color box at the top of your screen and pick a color that contrasts with the picture. White, black, or yellow works the best. - To make a Colored Border around your composite, go to Borders/Frames in the left hand column. Drag the inside lines to the margin of the box, both top and sides. Stop when the margin is the thickness of the frame you want. (You will have to experiment with this.) - Remember, anything outside the dotted lines around the perimeter of your composite will not print. Sometimes you can use this to your advantage. - To preview your composite, go to File then to Print Preview. Hit Close to get back to your composite. - To print your composite go to File then Print then Properties and select Draft Mode. This will save ink and paper. Put your first version on plain paper. If you are satisfied with your composite you may then print in Best mode on Photo Paper. |
