Most public elementary schools in Austin spend two weeks per month
teaching science. This time is not adequate to cover the many aspects of
the natural sciences while still having time for the children to
experiment with hands-on activities in the classroom. Next year a science
portion will be added to the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills test
proving that science must be covered in more detail in every classroom in
the state of Texas. Most teachers who find enough time to cover the
material do not have extra allotted time for the children to learn it
kinesthetically. The Crazy Science Fair Extravaganza was created to give
children this chance to open their minds and let them wander. We hope to
open the door of learning to many children to teach them how fulfilling it
can be to advance your education. Science is the instrument we will use
to bring everyone together and attain our goals.
