The
Crazy Science Fair Extravaganza was developed from the idea that science
can be exciting! The event is a day-long program at Hillel for Ridgetop’s
students. Individual stations, each hosting a different interactive
project is staffed by mentors. University professors from UT are being
invited to present specific learning activities. The moment they arrive
in the building, students will enter a fantasy world of crazy
discoveries. For example, while sitting in a UT formula racecar, they
will learn how it is built and what parts make it work. At another
station, they will have to build towers out of uncooked pasta and
marshmallows while learning about civil engineering and building
structures. As they enter the building's courtyard, they will build remote
control vehicles experiencing electrical current and resistance. Each
station will have posters explaining the basics behind the activity, and a
take-home project to reinforce the learned theory. Numerous student
organizations at UT will be invited to host a station to teach science in
a simplified, hands-on approach. We are also seeking the support of
professors in the sciences as well as professors in the school of
education to lead discussions and experiments proving the theories of
science.
