Listen to Colombian music
Colombian music can be seperated into five different categories. They are cumbia, porro, pasillos, bambuco, and vallenato. It is important to know that Colombian music has a great influence from African standards. African slaves played a vital role in the development of Colombian music. Cumbia and porro are very much alike. Colombia Tierra Querida is an example of porro music. Pasillo has a sort of waltz type of characteristic to it. Pasillo songs are usually more romantic, expressive and exciting. Bambuco music is the product of mixing Spanish and native cultures together. It has both European and Afro-hispanic qualities. Vallenato started with songs composed by peasants near Valledupar. This type of music was influenced by the Africans, Europeans, arahuacos, and the guajiros. Europeans had the greatest influence on this music type with the introduction of the accordian with buttons. ''La Gota Fria'' is an example of vallenato music.

This is an example of Colombian art. It was painted by Fidolo Alfonso Gonzalez Camargo. The title of the painting is La Nina Campecina. Colombian art has like a naturalism/realism trait. It focuses a lot on nature and everyday life.
Colmbian food is mainly very simple but honest food that will get you through the day. One example of a Colombian dish is the bandeja paisa. It is a combination of rice, beans, steak, fried plaintains, pork bellies, arepa, and sausage. If you want a treat you could try some arequipe. It is like caramel except softer and creamier.
