On Saturday, September 28th, 2002, the Upward Bound Program hosted a luncheon with actress/comedienne Ellen Cleghorne of Saturday Night Live fame. Ellen presented a wonderful message to the students, encouraging them to not give up and to reach for their dreams. She spoke about her early years and family background and how those situations pushed her to become a success. After Ellen spoke with the students, everyone was enjoyed a buffet lunch of hamburgers, fries, and cookies. After lunch as the students began to head home, Ellen took the time to speak with each individual student, sometimes spending as much as 20 minutes at a time one-on-one. The students got a real kick out of speaking with her face-to-face and were talking about it for days after.
