This week's question:

What do I have to do to be saved?

Dear  Not Great but Good,

Your question is a good one.  In fact is one that many people misunderstand, but is eternally vital to get right.

Scripture tells us that God created man in His own image, perfectly.  However, He gave man the fantastic ability to choose.  Shortly after, man chose to sin, he chose to disobey God.  That sin seperated him, and consequently all mankind, from God because He is completely holy, and the penalty for this sin was death.  There was nothing that man could do to make up for his sin.  It is always there, creating an uncrossable chasm.

But God knew that we would fall, so He came to this world Himself, as Jesus Christ.  He lived a perfect life, and yet allowed mankind to put him to death.  He rose again to life proving his power over death and sin, and has bridged that chasm if we accept his death in place of our own.

We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory, the perfection that God requires, and therefore we need Him as our Saviour and Lord.  Trust him, and lay your burdens on Him, because He loves you!

God Bless You "Not Great"!

Dear CS Baptist,

I have heard so many preachers talk about God and not smoking and drinking and stuff.  But I am a pretty good guy, I mean I don't steal nothing or fight with people.  I give money to the Salvation Army and come to church once in a while.  Won't God let me into Heaven?

Sincerely,
Not Great but Good,
Somerset, KY
