Current Reference Items

This part of my site features information on questionable items that you may have encountered recently, perhaps in an auction. As such, this page will change frequently.

The stamp pictured above is a New York counterfeit of Scott #6. I see at least 2-3 per week on Ebay, offered as genuine. Although it is a good counterfeit, it can usually be detected from a scan.

This stamp is a genuine CSA #8, with fake cancels. There were no killers of that type used in the Confederacy, and certainly a "New York" cancel has no place on a CSA stamp. Since this stamp is more valuable used, fake cancels are commonly encountered. Used examples of this stamp should always be submitted for expertization.

DISCLAIMER: The comments expressed on this page are solely my own opinion, and I do not represent myself to be an expert in Confederate stamps.
