Psalmus 127 (126) Zarándok-ének Salamontól.

1.) Nisi Dominus aedificaverit domum in vanum laboraverunt qui aedificant eam

nisi Dominus custodierit civitatem frustra vigilavit qui custodit

Unless the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it.

Unless the Lord keep the city, he watcheth in vain that keepeth it.

Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it:

except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

Ha nem az Úr építi a házat, építői hiába dolgoznak rajta.

Ha nem az Úr őrzi a várost, őre hasztalan virraszt felette.

Hogyha az Úr nem építi a házat: aki építi, hasztalanul fárad.
Hogyha az Úr nem őrzi meg a várost: az éjjeli őr haszontalan virraszt.

2.) Vanum est vobis ante lucem surgere surgere postquam sederitis qui manducatis panem doloris cum dederit dilectis suis somnum

It is vain for you to rise before light, rise ye after you have sitten, you that eat the bread of sorrow.

When he shall give sleep to his beloved,

It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows:

for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

Hiábavaló hajnal előtt kelne­tek, és késnetek a lefekvéssel, akik a fáradság kenyerét eszitek,

hiszen ő álmában is megad mindent annak, akit kedvel.

Hasztalan nektek hajnal előtt kelni, késő éjjelig dolog mellett ülni, Akik kemény munkával esztek kenyeret: álmában is bőséggel ád az Úr annak, akit szeret.

3.) Ecce hereditas Domini filii mercis fructus ventris

Behold the inheritance of the Lord are children: the reward, the fruit of the womb.

Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

Íme a gyermek örökség az Úrtól, a méh gyümölcse jutalom.

Íme: a fiak Istennek jutalma, a méh gyümölcsét ajándékul adja.

4.) Sicut sagittae in manu potentis ita filii excussorum

As arrows in the hand of the mighty, so the children of them that have been shaken.

As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

Mint a nyilak a hős kezében, olyanok az ifjúkorban nyert fiak.

Akár a harcos kezén a nyilak: ifjú erőben született fiak.
(ifjú erőben született fiak: segítik és támogatják atyjukat, ha megöregszik.)

5.) Beatus vir qui implebit desiderium suum ex ipsis non confundentur cum loquentur inimicis suis in porta

Blessed is the man that hath filled the desire with them; he shall not be confounded when he shall speak to his enemies in the gate.

Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

Boldog az az ember, aki megtölti velük tegzét!

Nem éri szégyen, ha ellenségeivel beszél a ka­puban.

Boldog ember, akinek tegeze azokkal tele van:
nem éri szégyen, ha ellenségével áll ki a kapuban.
(a kapuban: itt szoktak lenni az ítélkezések (l. Péld. 31, 23); itt majd megvédik az ártatlanul vádolt atyát fiai.)
