| Review The graduating class of Lakeview High is celebrating their graduation with a class cruise to the Big Apple--New York City! While most of the class are getting a good night's sleep preparing for the next day's voyage, two of the lovers of the class, Jim and Suzy, are celebrating on their own boat--before docking up with the cruise ship the next morning. While on their boat, they wind up on Crystal Lake, right by the camp. Jim goes out to throw over the anchor, and when he realizes where he's at, he goes back inside and tells Suzy a horror story about the Voorhees legend. After scaring her with a hockey mask nearly identical to Jason's, Jim apologizes to her and they go to the bed to make love. Down below lies the body of Jason Voorhees. He is resting comfortably when the anchor Jim threw over drags and electrical cable over Jason's body and shocks him back to life. Re-charged, Jason climbs aboard the boat, gets his new mask, and kills Jim and Suzy. The next morning, Jim's boat does indeed dock up with the Lazarus, but it is Jason who climbs aboard, and the deck hand knows it, and he tries to tell some of the people boarding, but they don't believe him. The two chaperones of the trip, Charles McCulloch and Colleen Van Deusen, two teachers at Lakeview High, take inventory of who's there and realize that Jim and Suzy hadn't shown up. Passing it off as nothing, they continue on, despite Charles not wanting Rennie to go. (Charles is Rennie's legal guardian, because Rennie'e parents were killed in a car wreck when she was little). McCulloch soon gave in, and Rennie was allowed on board. When she gets on, she meets up with her boyfriend Sean Robertson, whose father is the captain of the ship. His father has put a lot of pressure on him over the years to follow in his footsteps, and Sean just really wants to get away from it. The Lazarus soon sets sail, with Jason on board in the bowels of the ship. Jason's first victim on board is punk-rocker J.J., who wanted to make a demo tape in the basement to send to a recording company. Instead, Jason smashed the party and introduced us all to his No. 1 smash hit--a guitar to J.J.'s head. Rennie is having countless nightmares about Jason and about swimming. She just can't seem to shake the visions she has of Jason as a boy. Rennie's dog Toby runs off when it gets scared, and Rennie goes to look for him--with Jason not far behind. Next up on Jason's list is an exhausted boxer, who lost a match to the favored Julius. In the sauna, the boxer has a towel over his head and hears the door open. Assuming it is Julius, he doesn't move an inch, allowing Jason to move in and stick a hot sauna rock in his chest. Meanwhile, below deck, Tamara and Eva, two friends, have snuck off to snort some cocaine, when they are caught by Rennie, and then by Charles McCulloch. He warns Tamara to have her biology project ready or else she won't be able to go on shore in New York. Tamara has other plans, as she knows of Rennie's fear of water, and "accidentally" bumps her off the boat and into the water. Sean rescues her and Tamara and Eva run off. Soon after, Charles McCulloch shows up at Tamara's room, where she is waiting with her biology project, her near-naked body with the organs labeled on it. She starts to seduce Charles, and when Wayne, an aspiring film student, catches it on tape, Tamara has the bait she needs to go to New York. Wayne goes to shoot some more footage, and Tamara goes to take a shower to wash off the paint. When she comes out, she spots Jason outside the door, but it's too late. Jason barges in and stabs her to death with a mirror shard. A violent storm soon breaks out, and Jason makes his way to the bridge and kills Admiral Robertson and his first mate. Sean and Rennie, who want to get off of the ship, go to the bridge to radio the Coast Guard--and discover their bodies. Distressed, Sean calls everybody up the bridge, and then connects with the Coast Guard. But before he can tell them anything, Jason cuts the line and the transmission is lost. The deck hand continues his tirade that Jason is on board, and despite Charles' protests, the remaining students split up to go find Jason. Back at the rooms, Eva is looking for Tamara to see if she heard the announcement, and she finds Tamara's body and then Jason shows up and chases her to the dance floor, where he chokes the life out of her. Below deck, Wayne loses his glasses and accidentally shoots one of his counterparts. Jason moves in and tosses Wayne onto an electrical panel, and then catches on fire. In the bridge, Charles passes off the fire alarm as nothing, and goes to find the deck hand, the one he thinks is responsible. On top, Miles is next, as he tries to kill Jason with an ax. Jason knocks the ax away and then disposes of Miles. Julius, who had a shotgun, is surprised from behind by Jason and thrown overboard. Rennie knows nothing of this, because Charles locked her in her room. Jason then attacks her through a porthole, but Rennie fights him off with a fountain pen in the eye, which Jason discards and then goes away. Sean then breaks into Rennie's room and they lower the lifeboat. The problem is that the remainder of the class were killed when the fuel tanks exploded down below. So, Sean, Rennie, Miss Van Deusen, and Charles try to escape, when the deck hand appears with a knife, then falls--with an ax in his back. They climb down to the life boat as Jason watches above. After finding Rennie's dog Toby and getting it aboard the life boat, they are met by a surprise--Julius! He wasn't dead! They helped him aboard and started rowing toward shore, which they had no idea how far away that wasAfter countless hours of rowing, Julius wakes up and sees it--The Statue of Liberty! They had made it to New York! He tells the others, and they dock the boat in a rather dark and dirty part of town. However, as they move ahead, they don't realize that they were followed-- by Jason! He too was now in New York! Before they can get help from the police, the group is robbed by two street thugs, who then take Rennie and run off. The others split up and try to rescue her and/or get help. The two punks drug Rennie, and hope to get her to pass out so they can have their way with her--when Jason shows up and kills both before chasing after Rennie. Julius runs to a pay phone and dials 911, but Jason attacks him, causing Julius to drop the phone and climb to the roof of one of the buildings. Jason follows him, and the ultimate boxing match is on. Julius nails Jason with everything he has--which would have damn near killed a normal man--but Jason takes every blow and stares at him for some more. When Julius tuckers out, he stops and tells Jason to take his best shot--and Jason knocks his block--and his head--clean off. Rennie, by some small miracle, finds Sean and tells him about Jason. They run and find Charles, who has since rounded up one of New York City's finest and Miss Van Deusen. They decide that they need to find Julius before they can do anything else. When they get in the police car, Julius' head is hanging from the rearview mirror and Jason kills the police officer. Rennie gets in the driver's seat and runs Jason over with the car. She then sees another vision of Jason--and rams into it--but actually rams into a nearby wall. Sean, Rennie and Charles escape--but Miss Van Deusen perished when the car explodes and goes up in flames. Rennie then has a flashback of when she was a little girl, and sees that Charles threw her into Crystal Lake to teach her how to swim, and she was attacked by young Jason. That explains her fear of the water, and she runs off. Sean tails close behind, but not before yelling at Charles and shoving him down. As Charles tries to recover, Jason revives and drowns him in a barrel of sewage. Sean finds Rennie, and he consoles her, but not before Jason crashes the party, and chases them into the subway. No one will help them--and they wind up coming out of the subway and into Times Square, with Jason close behind. They are chased into a local diner, and Jason absolutely destroys a barkeep who thought he was tough--before following Rennie and Sean out the back door. With no other options, Sean and Rennie are forced to go into the dreaded New York sewers. Could Sean and Rennie stop Jason or would Jason take Manhattan? |
