| I started in radio in 1981 because a friend of mine told me that I would never make it. Well, I don't know what their idea of making it was, but I'm still in radio and most people tell me that I do a fine job.(Michael of course is my biggest fan!) | ||||
| I started radio at a small FM country station in Cottonwood Arizona (KCRJ) in 1981.That was quite a learning experience I have to admit. It was about that time that I met Michael. 2 years into it, the station sold and I had to find another job pronto. Lucky for me there was a small AM station in a nearby town (KAZM in Sedona Arizona) and a man by the name of Dave Kessel who was willing to give a very shy and unsure novice another chance. I worked for KAZM for another 2 1/2; years before I felt a need to move on to a bigger audience. My move didn't take me far, only to Phoenix Arizona and KOOL FM, one of the top 10 stations at the time.I did the over night gig for another 2 1/2; years (seems to be the magic number, doesn't it?) During the whole time Michael and I continued working on our relationship (neither was ready for marriage) and raised my two sons. Finally in 1987 Michael decided that he would make an honest woman out of me and gave me a choice. We could stay in Phoenix and I could continue working in the big time, or we could move back to Cottonwood and try to make a living with my two boys. At that point I no longer wanted to be a major market jock, so we moved back to the Verde Valley. I had no idea how we were going to make ends meet, but our luck held. The owner of KAZM, Joe Tabback, called and asked if I would like to come back to work for him. I did, and there I spent the next 11 years. During that time my sons left the nest.; (Nick went to live with his dad in Iowa and Steve joined the Army) In 1998 Mike Carter called me and asked if I wanted to come to work in Kansas City Missouri for WHB and KMZU. Mike and his wife Carol had traveling through Arizona on a vacation and just happened to pick up my show (Noon to 5 p weekdays) on KAZM. After flying out and talking it over, Michael and I figured that it would be a great adventure, if nothing else. So, here we are! My time with KMZU came to an end on the 12th of April 2002. It was a wonderful 3 year and I learned a lot (web page building was just one of them) Now it's time to move on and try something else for a while. Check back to see what happens next!!! |
