As the initiator of Crystal Unicorns, I am writing about my visions for a future sustainable life that we could all enjoy here on our beautiful Mother Earth.  The members of this group are scattered across the world, in the following places, to name the areas to date :
Australia, America, Norway, Holland, Canada, Romania, Singapore, South Africa  ....................

What I now describe is available to all in the world, although geographical locations obviously do have an impact on the end result.
Introduction

The background or motivation for eco-villages is the need to reverse the gradual disintegration of supportive social/cultural structures and the upsurge of destructive environmental practices on our planet.

Eco-villages are urban or rural communities of people who strive to live a sustainable, satisfying lifestyle in harmony with each other, all other living beings and the Earth. Eco-villages attempt to integrate a supportive social environment with a low-impact way of life. To achieve this, they integrate various aspects of ecological design, permaculture, ecological building, green production, alternative energy, community building practices, and much more.

Eco-villages typically build on various combinations of three dimensions:

Social/Community
Ecological
Cultural/Spiritual
My vision is to establish an eco-village development here in Australia, naming the community after an Aboriginal story I read about "OGOMOO", which was a paradise, and if the interest is there, encourage and support others in other countries of the world in which we have members who are interested in this way of life.

"OGOMOO", here in Australia, would be one of many eco-village developments around the world, many of them part of the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN). Our design will be built on the ideas, experiences, and problems of many of our predecessors, and we hope in turn to contribute to the development of even more eco-villages. This web-site is the start of our contribution.

What makes
"OGOMOO" special is its timing.  The Earth is crying out to be saved and healed - to be treated in the manner for which she has been given to us.The Strata Title Arrangement we would establish would provide a wonderful framework for our other design elements such as Permaculture, alternative technologies, LETS, cluster development, co-housing options, emphasis on families and children as well as the development and implementation of sustainable crafts. We believe they are all necessary for designing a lifestyle for its residents which is then sustainable in many ways.

"OGOMOO" is also unique in that it will be designed as a village, not just a community. We see two factors as crucial in achieving this. One is that this village (like the vast majority of other "natural" villages) will be populated by a very wide range of people. The second is that people can leave the village easily; there are no restrictions put on people's ability to sell up and move on, for whatever reason.

If you want more detail about the development, and would like to be a part of our wonderful vision, follow the links on this page. The headings will lead you into many pages which set out what we are doing. As a quick guide, in this section:

OGOMOO NEWS : The latest stuff; updated monthly.
CALENDAR : Courses, open days.
WHAT'S NEW : A guide to what has changed on the site.

And, across the major headings:

LOCALITY : Maps of the areas.
DESIGN : Site map, major elements outlined. If you want a concise description of the project, it is here.
COMMUNITY : Leadership, children, schooling.
GALLERY : Pictures of the eco-village and the people.
RESOURCES : Courses, references, background papers and articles.
ENQUIRIES : Wwoofing, internships, visiting, purchasing, FAQ.

If you feel you want more information, the next step is for you to email Sha with a specific question, or to plan a visit.

"OGOMOO" is not like an ordinary property development where you can get a site map and drive around and look at lots. This is for three reasons; one is that, as you can see from the website, there is a huge amount of design that underlies the layout, and to look at the pegs in the ground would give you no idea of these concepts. Secondly, the common property is private property, and we are intent on preserving that privacy for residents. Thirdly, as the people who are dealing with serious enquiries are also the people who are doing the development, we need to plan our time so that the infrastructure building can proceed as quickly as possible.
So if you want to visit, please make contact and a guided tour will be arranged. Then you can be sure of receiving our full attention.  Until then, please tour our website.
