Week 1 (1/20): noticed no stim of talking aside, w/ pinched side of mouth

Week 3 (2/3): very attentive w/ HW, no complaining; completely caught up in past HWs wanted to do it and would have done more

Week 4 (2/10): began aggressive behaviors (for no reason) -- has periodically happened in the past too; met w/ DAN! to began chelation. Doc wants another yeast test first; began SNT again (ran out of yellow of YBs for couple of days)

2/15/02: began garlic caps 1 per day; began CSE 15 (FGF2) (Asked if it was "vanilla") CSE 14 (IGF-1) (after reached out toward Christopher and said they he had  "mucous" also afterward I saw that behind his ears were dirty & said that he needed a bath; his ears were dirty.  He said he wanted to take a bath ... "to get  clean" These were all words; phrases that he hasn't used before.) Gave epson salt bath

2/16/02: on way to Jimmy's party, I asked Gene what he would say to Jimmy when we get there -- Rebecca said "Hi Jimmy" Gene said "Happy Birthday, Jimmy." At Jimmy's bday party, Christopher went outside after I told him not to (it was getting dark) Gene said "Christopher went outside. Christopher, come inside; it's dark  outside." He also sat nicely while eating and chose 2 books to read which he read nicely. In the am I cut his hair without as much resistence and when Daddy  came home he said, "Daddy, look at my haircut." (used IGF-1 & FGF2 once in AM but missed PM and night vits and such) When Mom was leaving, she said  Goodbye to Gene and he said "Goodbye Grandma" She said "I Love You" which I don't think he heard, so I said "Gene, Grandma said I love you" so he turned to  look at her and ran over and said I love you Grandma and gave her a big hug(!!)

Week 5 (2/17): Tried new vitamin Sun PM, but Gene was ill in the AM so will just wait on this one in case there was any relationship. Wonder if he is going through minor die-off from garlic?  Began dosage (only 1t) of Cod Liver Oil and Flax Oil (2/19).  Stopped using SNT because I haven't been able to mask it well in anything; he even tasted the differenc in grape juice.  Might try orange soda or something.  This week I am having more trouble with the pills.  Very articulately he has told me he does not like the garlic and all the pills are getting to be a challenge now.

2/20/02: Gene was feeling fine today & the supervisor said that he had a GREAT day at STAR; he even received an extra reward.  He language was very good; he asked nicely for placement at exercise; commented about another child's misbehaving; when asked if he wanted snackfoods (that he was not supposed to eat), he politely refused and said that he had his own snack; she went on and on!  He also wanted to do his homework tonight; he got it out on his own, set up the desk & started working on it on his own(!)

2/21/02: Ok, now I'm sick.  This AM, Rebecca walked Gene down the driveway for the bus (to give a msg - I stayed at top). It was nice seeing them interacting; Rebecca was stepping in the gutter water & Gene laughed and said, "Rebecca! Don't step in the water; you'll get your shoes wet!"   Gene is starting to get a gag reflex with the pills now...hmmm.

2/22/02: This AM, after I had mentioned to Gene that his bus would be coming soon (to prepare him), I noticed that he was gone.  He had gotten his shoes on, got his backback on and walked down the hill to wait patiently for the bus.

2/23/02:  Just keep noticing little things each day...especially when he replies to me in a very normal cadence (vs the sing-songy norm) and very normal wording.  I caught him independently going through the book shelf, pulling book after book down, reading it (as far as he can) and grabbing another one!  He really is enjoying reading and hw so much more now!

Week 6 (2/24): I'm not having the problem with pills anymore.  Maybe it was tough last week since he was sick(?)  I am noticing that Gene is feeling cold more than he used to; he is commenting when he is cold now.  He used to be able to run around with almost nothing on when I was freezing in sweats.  Also he seems to have a better appetite too.  This seems to indicate that the opiate reaction of "numbing" his senses may be wearing off.  The other things that I noticed this week were that Gene has been taking responsibility for things (ie he started packing his own snack & lunch bags for school - it was very cute - he got out the pencil I use and wrote Gene's Snack and Gene's Lunch on the bags like I do and filled the bags and all.  Finally Gene has been much more natural & self-motivated speech (see below).

Saturday (3/2): ALL of the swim teachers came together and commented (emphatically) what a great session Gene had today!  He swam on his back, his front, swam straight in the lane with outstretched arms, controlled kick.  They couldn't believe this was the same boy that less than a year ago couldn't get his face wet!!  I also found him drawing his own bath tonight and measuring out the Epson salts and dissolving them in hot water.  He said he wanted to do it himself. Today, totally unsolicited, Gene thanked me for giving him a blanket (he used to have to be prompted for a Thank You and many times he would say "Thank you, You're Welcome." At bedtime, he started to say a typical (awkward) sentence - "you want to get my blanket?" and midway corrected himself and said, "Mom, will you get my black and green blanket, please - it keeps me warm."
