CRYSTAL  LABS
Michael D. & Linda S. Burton
Camden, SC
We were first introduced to Labs in 1983.   We went to visit my sister in South Carolina, who had 2 male Labs (a chocolate and a yellow).  We got in very late and went on to bed without waking up everyone.  When we got up the next morning, her chocolate male, Wrip, nosed his way into our bedoom, grabbed Michael's sox and took off down the stairs with everyone in hot pursuit.  Well, Wrip not only stole the sox but our hearts as well and since my sister would not part with her boy, we began our search for our very first Lab.
We wanted a chocolate, like Wrip, but back then they were not as popular as they are today.  We found a litter of black puppies out of a chocolate female and went to take a look.  They were nine of the cutest little puppies we had every seen.  They seemed to be everywhere at once.  I got out of the van to go knock on the door and when I looked back one of the puppies was sitting by the van looking up at the door.  No coaxing could get her to budge.  We talked to the owner and played with the other puppies, but that one pup just sat by the van.  I went over and opened the door and she jumped right in and proceeded to put her nose print on every available window she could reach and looked at us as if to say, "Well, let's go home".  And that is exactly what we did.
We wanted our new little girl to be as well behaved as my sister's dogs were, so we enrolled her in obedience classes.  She did quite well and before long she had all of us doing just about whatever she wanted us to do.  She grew up with our four kids and remained with us long after our kids had moved on into lives and homes of their own.  Her daughter, Noir, was with our son to welcome our first grandosn into the world and begin the training process all over again.
Today, we have our chocolate girl (Maggie), a yellow girl (Ivy), and a black boy (Merlin).  Maggie's son Tanker, our girl A-me and Lucy.
And it all began with My Old Girl . . . . .
