March 27, 2005 It's one of those days whenever you can see your life, and it's going in rewind, showing you glimpses of the things that make you who you are today. It's amazing the things people will do for self satisfaction, not caring who the hurt. We are all living for only one thing... to love and to be loved. Sad, isn't it? That's what drives us. But just for one minute, try to think of one thing that we have done that was truly for the good of others...no outcome that we could profit from. I can't really think of one thing. I remember on my 21st birthday, I was going around to all the gas stations to buy alcohol (seeing how many times I got carded), and there was a lady pumping gas. She went inside to pay but her credit card was declined. I noticed her license plates were from South Dakota. As she frantically searches her car for money , I happen to notice that an old woman was sitting in the passenger seat and a young boy in the back. I felt awful. So i went to her and handed her $20. She said thank you, and I went on my way. Later that night I told my dad about it. Yeah, I know it was a good thing to do, but it was more for me than her. I had the satisfaction of telling someone that I had done a good deed. So in reality, we are all extremely selfish. I leave off with a quote: "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I am not sure about the former." -- Albert Einstein |
