Welcome to another fun article in which I will show you some
interactions you may or may not have noticed among Future Sight cards. Onto the
cards:
1- Saltskitter and Soul or Essence Warden- Gain a life a turn every time the
Saltskitter comes back into play after either you or your opponent casts a
creature.
2- Scout's Warning and Magus of the Moat- When your opponent sees that you have
no creatures in play they will usually attack all out. With this little combo
you can force them to not attack with non fliers. [Editor's note: Just be sure
you play the Warning and the Magus during the beginning of combat step, BEFORE
attackers are declared. Otherwise it's just too late, because the non-flying
guys will already be attacking you.]
3- Aven Mindcensor vs. Dragonstorm and Bitter Ordeal- This card will stop Dragonstorm
from comboing off and since it has flash you can cast it in response to their
Gigadrowse. Against the Bitter Ordeal your opponent will have less of a chance
to get any of your good cards out of your deck. Also great against rebel
searchers and land searchers.
4- Seht's Tiger vs. Demonfire- One of the few ways to prevent a Hellbent
Demonfire from ending your life. [Editor's note: If you read a recent Mike
Flores article, you might think that this doesn't work. But it does! Not
because it prevents the damage, but because it stops you from being targeted by
the red spell, Hellbent Demonfire or not.]
5- Delay and Detritivore- When you remove the last counter your opponent will
likely try to counter him because he will be big. Instead you counter it with
Delay and you get to keep on using his land destruction ability.
6- Magus of the Future and Mystic Speculation- With the Magus in play you cast
the Mystic Speculation and you will never be stuck with unplayable cards on the
top of your deck. Also works great in a combo deck with Early Harvest to give
you a better chance to play more spells.
7- Narcomoeba and Dredge cards- Use the dredge ability to get the Narcomoeba
into your graveyard and then put it into play for free.
8- Bitter Ordeal and Boom/Bust- You should be putting a lot of cards into
graveyards with this combo, then you can remove almost all your of opponent's
good cards.
9- Fleshwrither and Mindslicer- When the Fleshwrither is in play your opponents
will hesitate to cast Wrath of God in fear of you taking a Mindslicer out in
response. If they don't you can always search out a Shimian Specter and wreck
their hand that way. [Editor's note: I missed this the first time around, but
this doesn't work. Transfigure works at sorcery speed, so you won't be able to
respond to a Wrath by sacrificing the Fleshwrither and throwing out anything.]
10- Rift Elemental with any of the 5 cards that get suspended after they are
cast- With this little guy in play you can remove counters from your suspended
spells and use them more often while pumping him up as well.
11- Sprout Swarm and Locket of Yesterdays- When you have 2 Lockets in play and
2 Sprout Swarm in the graveyard you can make an infinite number of Saprolings.
12- Utopia Mycon with the combo in #11- You can get infinite mana to use for a
Demonfire or something just as bad.
13- Jhoira of the Ghitu and any high casting cost card- Jhoira makes high
casting cost cards playable and able to come into play very fast. Play this in
a Blue Red Green deck that gets Jhoira into play on turn two. Turn three you
can suspend the card and start to remove counters via Clockspinning or Rift
Elemental giving you the ability to play the suspended card on turn 4.
After looking the set over I am a little upset at it. In my opinion, this set
appears to be one of the weakest final sets in a block. It may have been better
off as a second set, unless this does preview the future and sets will be
getting weaker. It does appear to be a fun set though. Here are some of my
predictions for Future Sight:
Worst card in the set: Force of Savagery- When a creature cannot be played
without a supporting card then it must suck bad.
Best Rare card in the set: Nimbus Maze- This is what a Dual land should be
like. Very balanced but still great.
Best Uncommon card in the set: Riftsweeper- A great way to stop combo decks
that rely on suspend cards.
Best Common card in the set: Rift Elemental- Taking time counters off of your
suspended cards is always good.
Honorable Mention: Pact of Negation- Only good in a deck with lots of mana
available or a combo deck that tries to win in one turn, ie. Dragonstorm.
I hope you all enjoyed the prerelease and release events. And enjoy Future
Sight.
