Crystal Lake "The Nipmuck Indians called it Wabbaquosset; the early settlers called it Square Pond; for a while it was called Ruby Lake because of the garnets in the surrounding rocks. In 1889 it was legally named Crystal Lake. But, no matter what it was called, this jewel lying partly in Ellington, Connecticut, and partly in Stafford, has glistened in the sunlight, reflected stars in the nighttime and lay under a blanket of snow and ice in the winter for years beyond count."
