For the first time in many years, the Princeton Invitational actually held somewhat ideal running conditions. In the past, it has been rainy, extreme cold, and rainy. This year, there was sun and it was in the upper 50s most of the day. The only not so good part was the strong wind. Despite the wind, the Cardinals had many excellent performances. Bubba Huss earned himself another ribbon by placing 13th in the 8th grade race. Nathan Randall, Dylan Stanton, and John Kennedy each ran sub-16:00 for 4000 meters, in their respective races, and all in the top 50.
The Varsity and Junior Varsity teams saw a lot of improvement yet again. Of the 17 who ran in those races, 11 earned new P.R.'s and one tied his previous one. On Varsity, all but one guy earned or tied a P.R. As a team, they finished in 18th place out of 25 or more teams. Last year, the Cardinals finished 27th out of 30 teams. Also, for the first time in 2002, the Cardinals had two runners finish sub-18:00. Troy Dey had a 24 second P.R. to finish in 17:53, and Brandon Heebink, for the second meet in a row ran a P.R.-tying 17:26.
