Coon Rapids came to the Blaine Invitational looking ready to compete against some of the best in the state, including Hopkins, the 1999 state champions. The varsity team was in the Blue Division, with the other top teams. However, the Cardinals took last. Brandon Heebink was out with a hip injury and Grant Ellingson was on suspension for the meet.
Despite the cold weather, Brian Krohmer had his 2nd fastest race of 2000 and Jake Heidkamp earned a new personal best. 5 of the 7 varsity runners finished in under 19 minutes.
