1. If a publisher really wants your work they'll pay you. They wont ask you for money.
2. You'll get rejections even if you're good. Hemingway, Bronte, King have all been rejected. I only know of one writer who wasn't rejected out of millions.
3. It has to be more than just about the money. Yes, sometimes people get rich and famous and that's great but you have to enjoy the journey or you won't enjoy the success
4. Read as much as you can.
5. You can submit to small print publications and zines to build a portfolio
6. When sending to publishers by mail. Remember the SASE Self addressed stamped envelope. So publishers can return your manuscript and answer your letter
