Player's note: The Order of Ichdrasil, or Cruoris Angelis {Blood Angel: *Latin*} is loosely based on the Clan system of old Scotland. I weaved it into Role Play experience as a means to celebrate my Scottish heritage that I hold in such high regard. I hope it helps broaden the understanding of the character as a whole.

The Order of Seven

  • Iliessa Macdonald - 4th Gen: Bedevere, Title: Ductus Rector

Connor Macdonald was the first sired by Bedevere and therefore originally held the title of Ductus Rector. During one of the horrific campaigns Bedevere was so infamous for conducting, he vanished, leading the Angelis into believing in his supposed death. In his steed as the eldest surviving sibling, Iliessa Macdonald - ne;VonZarovich, the second of Bedevere's direct line, took over hold of the leadership position and became the acting Ductus Rector. When it was discovered many years later that Connor still lived, the vote for leadership came to the Tribunal. In it's infinate wisdom, that same Tribunal granted Iliessa the duty, rights and powers of the position and restored her fully once more as it's holder. It was then decided that it should be completely relinquished by her elder brother so that no other challanges could be conducted. She has since held the position for centuries. All rights of ascension stem through her bloodline and direct heirs towards the Ichdrasil throne. She is Ichdrasil's undisputed leader. To enter into the ranks of the Cruoris Angelis is to become subject to and under her rule.

  • Connor Macdonald- 4th Gen: Bedevere, Title: Bellum Dux

Being the first of Bedevere's prodigeny, right of ascension originally gave Connor Macdonald the position of Ductus Rector as he was the eldest of the Macdonald clan and had obtained the title of Cheiftain upon his father's death. it was believed that Connor had died during one of the many battles of the time: thusly granting - by linage - the right over to his youngest sister Iliessa, who at the time had only been recently brought across. Only many years later was it found that Connor lived , but by that time Iliessa had served so well in his stead that structure and classification had been built the into the Order making it one the remaining power house that adhered to the code of the knights of the old system. Upon seeing the work his sister had completed in his absence, he relinquished his title fully to her in exchange for a more back directed roll in the now flourishing Cruoris Angelis. It should be stated as a side note that during Conner's reign the Order wasn't even established as a proper entity and only gave him a title and no governing powers.

  • Cyaninde - 4th Gen: Bedevere, Title: Arbitror

More of a pacifist in nature, Cyanide denied the position of Ductus and passed on the right of ascension to Iliessa's first born chylde; Jadis SuNuhm (this happening prior to any embrace of his own lineage, which might have negated the ascension). More than happy to serve in an educational position as one of the clans foremost theologians and artisans, Cyanide has instead resigned himself to searching out the lands for magic and means of more power for his brethren never once looking back towards what he handed over, and far more pleased with his nomadic - unattached - relationship to the clan body.

  • Jadis Su'Nuhm - 5th Gen: Iliessa, Title: Disposed Ductus

Once the elder Cyanide bypassed his right for Ductus in exchange for the nomadic life and easy suited manner of a scholar. The honor, through vote and lineage before the Tribunal, was given to Jadis (Suzanne) SuNuhm; first of Iliessa's embraced children. She has since held that honored moniker and position through the initial creation of the Order as it stands today, actively working on behalf of the Clan in that regard. Though she is noted as one of the most passionate, emotional ones of the Order, she is also highly respected for those same measures. Unfortunately those passions got the better of her judgement. Up until the point that she brought Topaz VonZarovich across it was believed that Jadis was the personification of what a Blood Angel means. Now, however, she of all people understand what it is to break the code, and the tribulation that follows as a result.

  • Masque - 6th Gen: Zeldarb, Title: Valens

Probably the most enigmatic member of the Order, mysterious and guarded. Even to most upon the Council of Seven her history within the Order remains vague and shrouded in whispered rumor and innuendo. Masque was only a young mortal when she first met Iliessa, long before the Ductus Rectors involvement with Strahd VonZarovich and the Annihilation that nearly wiped the Angelis from existence. Despite being somewhat fearful of what Iliessa was she developed a deep sisterly bond for the woman pledging her loyalty in an oath of blood and starting a journey she couldn't even begin to comprehend at the time. Most of Curious Angelis ignored her in spite of Iliessas blessing, reluctant tolerance at best since she was not one of the Order at the time. However, Zeldarb, one of youngest members, befriended her without prejudice, becoming a sort of older bother figure she'd always longed for. It was he that embraced her one stormy evening after a catastrophic event left her lifeless in his arms. He chose to disregard the Code in order to save her life and in turn put Iliessa in a very precarious position within the ranks of the Order. The law required Masque to take the Valpulus or be sentence to death as a rouge, an order that should have came from her own sister. But Iliessa knew of Masque's fear of the Blood Angels and the betrayal she felt in regards to Zeldarb who embraced her without permission. It was a situation that could have overthrown the Ductus Rector, her hesitancy in making a quick decision causing rumblings within the Order. Masque was being constantly threatened, most not hiding their disgust at the terrified fledgling. That's when Masque made the decision to flee, in order to spare her sister from a fate that could have affected everything she held dear. For centuries she remained in exile, until her existence was only a faded memory to those who survived the Annihilation. It was only recently that she chose to return, having felt a desperate call from her sister fighting at her side against the demon Moloch in the infamous VonZarovich battle in Hell. Afterwards she was asked to formally join the Order, the past being artfully covered up by Iliessa to the others. She's changed a lot since those days long gone, more confident and skilled in what she has become. Rarely does she discuss those years that she was on her own, the past having made her cautious. It's evident that her skill within the realm of Necromancy is unparalleled, gaining her the respect of even the oldest within the Order. Due to the circumstances surrounding her embrace she's usually the first one to speak up if she believes the Code is flawed, but is also the most loyal adherent when justice is due.

  • Mortis - 5th Gen: Connor, Title: Occisor

Hand picked by Conner because of his skills in battle campaigns, Mortis was bestowed the "gift" after recieving what would have been a fatal wound during one of the many raids Conner and he shared. Know as The "Mac" by Mortis, Conner was the leader of his clan and therefore he respected and followed the man's lead. Mortis was one of the last to be inducted into the council of seven as members do not loose status until death. Mortis is the "assassin" and is often the one chosen to hunt Rogue's when a blood hunt is called by the Ductus Rector.

  • Andrew MacDonald - 6th Gen: Jadis, Title: Veneficus

The youngest son of the group of Macdonald children, Andrew is Iliessa and Conner sibling. He was seperated from them during the take over of their father's lands by Bedevere and entrusted to his grandmother along with Kaleigh for safe keeping. Andrew was brought into the Angelis by Jadis at Iliessa's behest after he was dealt a fatal blow in a battle of mages. Andrew is the leader and instructor to those needing or wanting to learn the way of the cleric. He specializes in chemistry, herbal and hedge mage and a brand of healing that is in clan only.

  • Scottish Background

Scottish clans, as we know them today, were beginning to be formalised at the time of Robert the Bruce in the early 14th century. Since his time, the number of clans has multiplied dramatically and nearly all these later clans started out as septs. A sept is a family name that can be related to a clan or larger family for various reasons. Usually this came about either through marriage or by a small family seeking protection from a larger and more powerful neighbour. Now, this relationship is most often seen in the clan tartan that individual families are entitled to wear. Over time, many septs have become clans in their own right and, in the political turmoil that Scotland has seen over the centuries, many others came to be related to more than one clan.

    THE CLAN SYSTEM
The Clan system owes its origin to the Celtic tribal tradition, and remains at its strongest north of the `Highland Line' where Gaelic was the primary language until comparatively recently. The introduction of the Norman Feudal System from the south altered the relationship between the clan chiefs and the king, in that lands which had previously been held by the clans were now deemed to belong to the monarch, to be granted as he willed. The internal organization of the clans was little changed, however, and the chief, who succeeded according to the law of tanistry, dispensed justice in peacetime and led his clan in war. Each clan consisted of `native men', related by blood, and `broken men' - individuals or groups from other clans, who sought and obtained protection of the clan. The Normans, who came north from England, adopted many of these customs; the great Sinclair clan in Caithness, for example, owes its size to the number of retainers who took to themselves the chief's name. The custom of fosterage, the mutual exchange of children (often including the chief's children) between families, did much to bind the clan together. The Gaelic proverb "Kindred to forty degrees, fosterage to a hundred", describes a feeling of clan loyalty and egalitarianism, which today stretches from Scotland to every country in the world.
MacDONALD: CLAN DOMNALLACH (in GAELIC) (in the old county of) Hebrides, Inverness MEANING: until the 16th century the name was Clan Dhomhnuill or Domnallach `of the Donalds': only the chief was known as MacDhomnuill `son of Donald'. The personal name derives from GOIDELIC dubno `world' and val- `might, rule'. Grandson to Somerled (killed 1164), the half-Viking king of the Hebrides and Argyll, Donald was the son of Ranald and his second wife, daughter of Olaf, King of Man. Donald, his son Angus and his grandson Angus Og were effectively independant princes and when Angus Og supported Robert the Bruce he considered himself an equal. Angus Og's son, John, was the first to assume the title `Lord of the Isles' and it was John's son Archibald or Ranald who was the founder of Clan Ranald.
