| Chapter Twelve Vanessa's Point of View As I walked outside, slightly annoyed at Amanda's absence, my cell phone rang. I grinned as I heard the familiar electronic "Bye Bye Bye" tune playing from it. I picked it up and held it to my ear. "Girl! Where have you been?" My best friend, Tawny, asked, sounding worried. "Hey Tawny! I'm sooo sorry I haven't called. I've been... busy." "Where are you?" I lowered my voice. "After the concert, I followed *NSYNC back to their hotel. Then..." I smiled to myself as I recalled what had happened. "Then Chris bumped into me and knocked me out, and when I woke up Justin was standing there." "Seriously, Vanessa, what really happened?" Tawny asked. "I'm telling the truth I swear! Come here and see for yourself!" I gave her directions to the hotel, and we decided that she would be here tomorrow at three. I could tell she didn't believe me though. She sounded way too skeptical. A hand touched my shoulder suddenly, and I whirled around. "Justin." "Hey. I was looking for you. I wanted to know if youd like to go on a picnic." He held up a bag with some food and a blanket. I bit my lip, not knowing what to say. "Vanessa, I've been thinking about last night, and I realized that I was moving too fast. We need to get to know each other better first. And I really wouldn't mind doing that." "Okay. I forgive you." How could I resist? He grinned, the boyish gleam returning to his sparkling blue eyes. "Alright then. We'll take it slow. Oh yeah, we have a concert tomorrow night, do you wanna come?" "Sure! Oh wait, my friend Tawny is coming tomorrow." "Cool. She can come too." "Thanks." I smiled, and began to feel comfortable around him again. We walked a few blocks to a nearby park, and took a path deep into the woods before we decided on an empty clearing. By now, it was getting dark. Justin pulled out a light and set it on the ground. "See, I thought of everything!" He said proudly. I laughed, amused. We spread out the blanket and sat on it. It was summertime, so neither of us were cold. We began to eat in silence. The food was delicious. "So." I said. "So..." He repeated. I looked into his shining eyes, and he stared back at me, into the depths of my very soul. My body tingled all over, and I drew in a breath of air, not breaking our gaze. Justin pulled me close, and we lied down on the fluffy blanket, staring up at the stars. "Vanessa?" "Yeah." "Since we met, I've been experiencing this new... emotion." "Really?" "Yes. It's so strange. But I've figured it out." I turned to face him, and watched his _expression soften as he whispered the words: "I think I'm in love with you." Precious's Point of View My eyes overflowed with tears, and they ran freely down my face. "Josh... how could you?" I murmured. "Wait, I can explain!" He started. "I don't want any fucking explanation!" Amanda spat. "And I sure as hell don't want to be your wife!" She threw an engagement ring on the floor, and ran out of the room, sobbing. I gaped, open mouthed. I looked at the ring lying on the floor, then back at my finger, which also bore a ring. They were identical. I flung mine on the floor. "Go to hell, Josh." Then I ran after Amanda. "Amanda! Wait!" She disappeared into her room. I entered after her, closing the door securely behind us to make sure Josh didn't try to follow us in. We both stood there, tears streaked down our cheeks. We must have looked really strange. Amanda's shirt was halfway off, and I was only in a towel. "I never knew." Amanda said suddenly. "All the time that Josh and I were together. I never knew he was with you, also. What a jerk." "I agree." I replied, my wet eyes downcast. "I can't believe I almost lost my virginity to him!" Amanda said angrily. I still looked down. "Amanda, I did lose my virginity to him. And now... I'm pregnant." "You're what!?" "Pregnant." I whispered, not meeting her eye. A single tear ran down my face, and I shoved it away with my fingertip. "That bastard. THAT FUCKING BASTARD!!!" Amanda screamed, and yanked open her door. By the time I had gotten up, she was already halfway down the hall. I heard screaming, followed by a loud slap. I winced. Josh ran out, clutching his flaming red cheek, Amanda following. "YOU IDIOT!" She screamed. "YOU HEARTLESS PIECE OF SHIT!" She slapped him again. "YOU'RE A WORTHLESS, GOOD-FOR-NOTHING BASTARD!!!!" Josh stepped onto and elevator when it opened. Amanda entered, and I raced to it and stepped on with them before the door closed. Amanda continued screaming at Josh. By the time we had traveled down from floor four to the lobby, Josh's cheek was even redder. We emerged into the lobby, and everyone instantly stared. Josh didn't have a disguise on, so a few people recognized him, and everyone else was shocked to see someone standing there in a towel, still wet from her shower. Amanda gave Josh a final slap and ran back toward the elevator, me following her. Lance's Point of View Sara and I (clad in a baseball cap and sunglasses) were sitting there, trying to take all of it in. "What the hell just happened?" Sara wondered out loud. "I have no idea, but I'm about to go find out." I replied, standing and hurrying after Josh, who was trying to slink away unnoticed. As I made my way toward him, I shook my head, sighing. "Josh, what have you gotten yourself into this time..." |
