Terminologies
1. W3C World Wide Web Consortium-A guide that gives informations and other knowledge about the Web. It also develops technologies that helps the Web to be more effective and convinient.

a. Cyberspace- A large network of computers (made possible through the internet).
b. download-the process of transmitting a data (file) from a main source (usually from the network or BBS) into one's own computer.
c. upload-the process of copying a data from one's comptuer to the network, mainframe, or BBS.
d. GIF- Graphics Interchange Format. A bit-mapped image file format that is usually used when an image contains large area of the same color.
e. JPG-Joint Photographic Experts Group. A image file format that is designed to compress color and grayscale continuous-tone images.
f. PNG- Portable Network Graphics. PNG is an extensible file format for the lossless, portable, well-compressed storage of raster images.
g. login (as a noun and a verb)
n. The account name that is used to get access to a computer system.
v. The act of connecting to a computer system by giving one's credentials (usersname and password)
h. mailing lists (listserv and majordomo)-System that allows people to send email to one address, whereupon this messeage is copied and is send to the rest of the people on the mailist.
i. newsgroups-The name for disccussion groups on Usenet
1) USENET-A world wide bulletin board system that newsgroups use to discuss and share countless topics throug the internet.
2) How is USENET different from our class Discussion Board?
j. packet switching-the method used to move data around on the Internet.
k. router-A special-purposed computer that handles the connection b/w 2 or more packet-switched networks. These computer spend their time looking at the source and destination addresses of the packets passing through them and decide which route to send them on.
