It is the policy of the Board of Governors of Crumlin Primary School that the school will endeavour to provide the pupils with their full entitlement in the Northern Ireland Curriculum. The school will go beyond that entitlement in areas where there are particular abilities within the staff.
Crumlin Primary School will offer a curriculum that is balanced and broadly based and which is designed to promote the moral, cultural, intellectual and physical development of the pupils. The curriculum will seek to prepare the pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. It will be an aim of the school to maximise the potential of each pupil, to develop self-confidence in the pupils and to promote a spirit of tolerance towards others. The curriculum shall be so designed that the desire to learn will be encouraged in the pupils and that thinking and reasoning will be stimulated. It will be held to be important that children learn to apply themselves to the work in hand. While the acquisition of knowledge and skill will be regarded as important this will be placed in the context of the development of positive attitudes to learning and the development of acceptable social skills.
The school will consider the needs of both slow learners and gifted children when allocating resources. Every effort will be made to provide maximum access to the curriculum to children who are physically handicapped. The school accepts its responsibility to attempt to develop the full potential of pupils who may have suffered educational disruption by frequent transfer between schools.
