YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND TOMORROW

On a sunny day in "June of 24", Granddad and Grandma drove off for their honeymoon in Narragansett Rhode Island.  Granddad was driving his 1924 Moon (Touring Model), after having owned two Velies. The first "BIG V" (1919, Touring Model) having met up with a Franklin on a country lane in Rehoboth Massachusetts was replaced with a 1921, Touring Model. (Fortunately, the other Gentleman's Insurance took care of everything.)  The third (Moon) automobile had been delivered from the factory in St. Louis. The Velies came from Moline Illinois.  In the 1920’s there were lots of Entrepreneurs producing all kinds of vehicles to steal customers away from the “Tin Lizzie”, Henry Ford’s affordable Models T and A. One of those remarkable entrepreneurs was Willard L. Velie who produced a line of vehicles from 1902 until 1928, the same year Walter Chrysler launched the Chrysler-Plymouth line. You can visit the Official Velie Web Site at http://www.home.earthlink.net/~velie1/ .

If the 1920's were a fast paced happy time, the 1930's by comparison were the "Lean Years"and a somber time which tested Family Values. In order to keep a vehicle on the road it was necessary to carpool to work. Sometimes that went as far as getting a "Jitney" license plate. In Massachusetts they refer to it as a "Livery" license plate. New England is quaint that way. One of the cars Granddad owned during that time period was a seven passenger 1937 Plymouth Sedan bought new for $1000.00. There were 1,840 built of that model. Sharing a ride to work made it possible for the whole family to have a way to get to the beach on Sundays.

On a sunny day in "June of 74", Peter came over with one of the few remaining Rolls Royce produced in the states to take Granddad and Grandma to church for their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary. The Bishop celebrated the Mass.

Today a new design has come along to evoke memories, nostalgia, and the essence of what Family Motoring used to be.  Our newest family member came to us from Puritan Chrysler-Plymouth, Inc.  You can visit them on the Web or at 1200 Cranston St., in Cranston. BTW, If you are vacationing in Portugal, don't be surprised to see a PT Cruiser with a Deisel engine. They are put together in Brazil.

Our first Meet and Greet with the Rhode Island Chapter of The PT Cruiser Club (Guests from Massachusetts and Connecticut) was at Colt State Park in Bristol.     This scenic park is where we hold our five mile walks for the American Heart Association.

In the near Future perhaps we might be lucky enough to be sporting

around Narragansett Rhode Island in our Personal Transportation Cruiser Convertible!

You don’t have to own a PT Cruiser to belong, just visit the PT Cruiser Club on the Web at http://www.ptcruiserclub.org/
