Dragging Alec
into it
Chapter Thirteen:
Max looked at the map
one last time before she and Alec headed out on her Ninja. She frowned
suddenly.
“Hey Alec.” He turned to her.
“What?” Max pointed to something on the map and he grinned.
“Hey, Mouth.”
785 turned around, nearly cursing himself for
responding to the name.
“Looks like you can take all this back to command…we don’t need it.”
785 frowned. “This whole time you didn’t need any of it?”
Max shook her head, “Guess not, but don’t lose it, we’ll need it tomorrow.”
“Let’s go,” Alec looked at his watch. He turned to 785, “Head out, we’ll call
when it’s over.”
Max kicked her bike into gear and Alec slid on behind her. 785 hopped back into
the truck and headed the opposite direction.
Alec was on his phone in seconds, “We’re on our way.”
On the other side of the phone call, Biggs answered, “We copy.” He turned back
to Mole and two X6s, who nodded in confirmation.
Biggs sauntered out to the Sector Checkpoint.
“
The unconscious Sector Police littered the ground.
“Let’s grab the money and set up surveillance before a hoverdrone
comes by.” Mole nodded to Biggs, who ran into the Checkpoint office with the
X6s.
The X6s cleared the office of bribe money while Biggs took apart the computer.
“You get it done?” Mole asked as they came out the door.
“Of course.” Biggs grinned and they headed back to
“
“Call me when they’re done.” Was all
“Will do.” Biggs hung up.
The ninja ate up mile after mile until they passed a small road going off to
the side. Max slowed to a stop and they both climbed off.
“That was it, right?” she gestured to the road and took out the map.
“Has to be.” Alec answered, looking at the map over
her shoulder. “Yeah, there’s nothing else.”
She pulled the motorcycle off to the side of the road.
“So now we wait?” Alec asked, looking around him in the darkness, seeing
everything perfectly.
“Now we wait.” Max answered, eying him.
He turned towards her and caught her eye. They both swallowed and looked away.
They were on a mission, after all.
“So…thanks for throwing the light at the warehouse.” Alec couldn’t think of
anything else to say.
“Yeah…no problem.” Max answered, “Way to kick their
asses.”
“Yeah. When is the truck coming?” he asked.
Max looked at her watch. “Sometime in the next hour.”
“So we could have an hour…or 15 seconds?” he asked.
“Yeah, that’s usually what it means.” Max rolled her eyes.
“You know, Maxie…” he said slowly, stepping closer to
her, “We’ll hear him coming from miles away…”
Max stepped back away from him, her breath catching a little. “We have to be
prepared, we can’t…get distracted.”
“You’re distracting me just standing there, we might
as well do something worthwhile.” He cracked a grin and took another step
toward her.
She backed up into a tree, staring at him wide eyed as he stalked her.
“Alec…” she said softly, begging, though for what, she wasn’t precisely sure.
“It sounds better when you scream it.” He whispered, stepping up right in front
of her, but making no move to touch her.
Max swallowed. “What are we going to do about the hoverdrones?”
she grabbed wildly for something to talk about.
“We’ll figure that out tomorrow…what are we going to
do right now?” he asked, running a finger down her nose. “No ideas?” he
smirked. “That’s ok, I have a couple…” he kissed her
forehead, then her cheek and her neck.”
“Alec…we can’t…Oh, God.” She moaned as he kissed the hollow of her shoulder,
massaging her skin with his lips and tongue.
Objection forgotten, she pulled his head back and attacked his mouth with her
lips. He pushed back against her into the tree, his hands wandering over her
dark clothes and his mouth worshiping hers.
She threw his black leather jacket off into the dirt, but neither cared, they
were so entranced in the fire ablaze between them.
Suddenly a noise pierced Max’s consciousness…it sounded like…
They both jumped back from each other and looked at the road.
“Headlights…let’s go.”
“It would be early.” Alec muttered, climbing a tree next to the road.
“Would have been late if we hadn’t done anything.” Max
pointed out.
“True.” Alec chuckled, then stopped. “This is going to
go fast, right?” he whispered, eying her.
“Very.” She answered running out into the road and flagging down the truck. The
truck honked, but started to slow down. Not enough, though, and Max had to dive
out of the way.
“Bastard,” Alec muttered, catapulting himself from the tree and landing on the
truck. “Now I don’t feel so bad about this…” Wind whipping at him, he dropped
to his stomach, crawling over the drivers cab. Leaning over toward the driver’s
side, he smashed the window, reaching through to slam the driver’s head against
the steering wheel as the glass shattered.
There was a handle on the ceiling of the driver’s cab. Alec grabbed hold of it,
swinging his body into the driver’s seat as like a ten year old swings off a
bunk bed. He grabbed the steering wheel and slammed his foot on the break,
bringing the gigantic machine lumbering to a halt.
Alec pulled the door open as Max approached from the side. He pulled the driver
with him and shoved the unconscious man off into the woods.
He grinned at Max, now this was fun. She shook her head.
“Let’s go, soldier.” She hopped into the truck and he followed her.
“Watch out for glass,” he said with a smile.
“I’ll keep an eye out.”
“I’m not worried about your eyes.”
“Just drive, Alec.”
He did, they drove along the road they passed earlier.
“Max, how soon is it supposed to drop off…?”
“I don’t know, pretty…JUMP” she practically pushed him out the window and dove
after him. Both of them twisted in the air, landing on their feet as they were
programmed to do. They looked over the edge as the truck they had just dove out of landed with a crash at the bottom of the revine.
“Wait…wasn’t it supposed to…” The truck exploded in a huge fireball. “Never mind.” Alec muttered.
“There was a lot of gas in that thing. Almost regret not taking some first.”
Max winced at the idea that came too late.
Alec nodded, “Yeah, that would have been good. So…” he
turned to her.
“Now we call base.” Max gave him a sharp look as he made a face and pulled out
his phone.
“
“What did Biggs do?”
“He plugged us into the Sector Cops computer system. So now everything they do,
Max smiled in appreciation. “Good idea,
“Who else?” Alec shoved his hands in his pocket and
Max looked at him curiously.
“Are you jealous of
“What!? NO!” he stated emphatically…a little too
emphatically.
Max grabbed his hand. “Oh, so I don’t have to soothe your typically male
insecurity in some unique and creative way?” she asked, rubbing his palm with
her thumb and looking into his eyes. “Good to know.” Max dropped his hand and
pulled her Ninja out from the woods.
“You know…” Alec said slowly, preparing to make some kind of insecure
statement. He shut his mouth just before it came out and he slid onto Max’s
motorcycle behind her. “So, just to clarify…if I say I’m jealous of Logan I get
laid? Was that the deal?”
Max laughed, “Not worth it otherwise?”
“Hell no.” Alec muttered.
Max shook her head and hit the gas.
