Attendance Policy (TXS-Fall '04)
Students are allowed to miss one class. After this the absences are recorded. If three absences are recorded in the semester, points will be deducted according to the scale as printed in the syllabus.

Make Up
One of the absences can be made up by completing an extra credit assignment. This EC assignment is separate from any other assignments and cannot be used twice for different purposes. The assignment will be given by instructor during the semester. One option is always to do a movie review paper. This make-up assignment is for a missed class, for whatever reason. This includes absences with 'great' excuses, etc. This is your one make up!

Movie Review Papers
These papers are to be approx 1.5 pages in length. Hand written or typed. They do NOT summarize the film! The intent is for the student to demonstrate a critical understanding of the deeper (and more philosophical) themes in the movies. DON'T just tell us what happened in the movie!

Office Hours/Contact Info
If you're trying to make an appt with Jim, it's easy! Email him at [email protected] or [email protected]. My office hours are after classes on normal class days for approx one hour and on FRI from noon - 1pm. It is a good idea to write first and schedule an appt or talk about alternate times. I AM available for student meetings at alternate times to accomodate tighter schedules. Please contact me first to arrange these appointments. To contact by phone, please call the Phil Dept at 512-245-2285 or my office at 512-989-2293.

Philosophy Parties/Study Sessions
Throughout the semester there will be 'Sessions' where students and faculty can get together and discuss current events in philosophy and material directly relevant to the course. Please email Jim for details.
