A Tribute to Jack Duncan

It all started on a warm summers night back in 1998.  My freshmen year in high school was approaching fast, and my summer was dragging on, dull and boring.  I placed a phone call one night to my long time friend, and as we discussed recent happenings in wrestling and how great the Undertaker was, I began to cruise the internet.  I mentioned that I would like to began playing Modus Operandi, an online, text based game.  He told me it was a bad idea, because we would have to pay now, rather than play for free like we did back in the day, when it was available only through America Online.  One thing led to another, and I ended up telling him all about this game I had once found on the internet...an "e-fed."  E-wrestling.  And so it began.

After entering "e-wrestling" into the Yahoo! search engine, we quickly found a federation known as the WHW.  I applied as the character I created on WWF Warzone, Creature, and he applied as the Big Pimp.  It all started there, on that one fateful night.  The 3-4 years that would follow would be one hellacious ride.

In the summer of 1999, the Big Pimp was put to rest for two years, when in the HCW, his handler, my good friend, was forced to stop using the gimmick because of the legend known as Satan's Pimp.  He still wanted to e-fed, but he needed a new character.  And so we came up with "Mr. Showtime" Jack Duncan, a football player turned wrestler, partner of Creature.

As Jack Duncan, the rough and tough baby face who, along with Creature, tormented the HCW Tag Team Champions Kronic and Reaper, my friend claimed two championships and earned what is still today the biggest win of his career.  In a non-title match against Kronic and Reaper, and in Jack Duncan's debut, Jack Duncan forced Kronic, who would soon become a three-time HCW Champion, to tap out to an armbar submission.  Around two weeks later, on the same show Creature received and lost his first shot ever at a World Title, Jack Duncan defeated Streaker in a nine hour 5 Fall Table Deathmatch to win his first e-wrestling title ever, the HCW Television Championship.  His reign lasted two weeks, and saw him drop the strap to Michael Solo in a triple threat match.

Many federations have come and gone, but Jack has yet to truly break out as a mega-star.  He has only five championships to his name- the HCW Television Title, the HCW Tag Team Titles, the DWF Tag Team Titles, the ICW Intercontinental Title, and the newer HCW's Tag Team Titles as well.  He has had his ups and downs with e-wrestling and e-wrestlers, but one thing has remained a constant- he has never lost sight of what e-wrestling truly is.

Over the years, my vision of e-wrestling has become diluted.  It has evolved to fit the standard.  I still try to remain as close as I can to what e-wrestling originally was, but even I too now RP on my site, and count the number of words in my roleplays.  Jack Duncan still holds true to the one glorious rule of e-wrestling: Quality over Quantity.  In the beginning days, you were expected only to RP once, maybe twice a show.  Neither the size nor cosmetics of the RP mattered- only if it was a good read that promoted the match, developed the character, and built heat between the opponents.  And while these days the more RPs the better, the longer or prettier the RP the better, Jack Duncan still remains the same.  One color scheme, red and black, which is coincidentally the color scheme of the RP board from the WHW.  He could care less about length.  All that matters to Jack is staying in character, delivering creative insults to his opponents, and putting over the match.  If he wins...so be it.  If he loses...so be it.  He roleplays to entertain himself, and while he aspires to be a World Champion, he has fun in simply competing.

With the "new" HCW's Pay-Per-View event Meltdown Brawl II looming on the horizon, February 24th 2002, Jack Duncan is looking forward to facing off against Inphino Blitz for the HCW's secondary title, the HCW Continental Championship.  If he wins, it will be the 6th title of his career, and will become his biggest victory to date.

Jack Duncan also possesses a creative and insightful outlook on angles and backstage vignettes, one which I've known no one to be able to duplicate.  I myself am considered one of the best in that aspect, and until recently, I have only been met with disappointment, as Jack's ideas were turned down over and over again.  Fortunately, as stated earlier, today is a new era in Jack's e-wrestling career, and his ideas and opinions are openly accepted and valued.  His roleplaying talent is at last recognized, and his position in the "new" HCW is constantly improving.  He is in fact, at the time of me writing this, one half of the HCW Tag Team Champions with me.

For the first time in 3 years, Jack Duncan may very well be on the verge of becoming a main eventer, and a World Champion.  I must wish him luck, and can only hope that one day it will be Creature vs. Jack Duncan for the World Title.  He has been an ally, and twice an enemy, but he has always been a friend.  He has always been there to hear me and help me, and he has always been there to encouragingly insult every opponent I've ever gone up against.  When it is all said and done, I cannot say if he will be remembered by many- but he will be remembered by me.
