Harlequin You work the room In time-honored fashion Smiling, laughing Your facade your bastion On the surface You appear quite at home But underneath You're completely alone You know the game And you play with the best But it's become A continual test This pretend you This public persona Is draining you Attempting take over It isn't you And you don't want to be A mannequin Like so many you see They look so great And they say the right words They fit right in With the glamorous herd But they don't own An original thought They've no morals And they're easily bought But you refuse To become one of them You won't succumb To their meaningless whims You walk the walk You excel at their game But deep inside There is nothing the same You'll continue To pretend nonchalance Be as shallow And you'll mirror their wants Until the day When it just gets too close To damaging What you cherish the most When you must choose Between glitz and real life You'll leave behind All this meaningless tripe For what is life If one loses oneself You'll be content Your integrity kept Terri Lyn Stanfield 12/31/2001
Lying Eyes You sit right there, and look at me Directly in the eyes And tell me that your heart is crushed That I would think you lied You plead your case, you're so sincere You never once do blink You tell me that your innocent No matter what I think You have been accused in malice Someone wishes you ill You never would betray my trust You have too strong a will Temptation doesn't stand a chance Against your devotion You never even entertain That outlandish notion So please, won't I believe your claim Of total innocence You've never cheated, no, not once You've never used pretense You look at me with hangdog eyes Your heart there on your sleeve Clearly you expect forgiveness Too bad; before I leave Let me tell you a thing or two About your naive bride She ceased to exist a while back The first time that you lied While you have become an expert At covering your tracks I have become quite skilled myself At getting my own back While you've been otherwise detained I have rerouted funds I've spoken to a lawyer, too This fight has just begun I hired a private eye, as well He took some great snapshots Of you in flagrant delecti That's part of what I've got I've also got some witnesses All set to testify They've seen you while you've been at play You've been a busy guy So, no way do I believe you Or your pathetic claim Of your fidelic innocence And two can play this game You chose to spread yourself around Among the town's females And I chose to take advantage Of all the rumored tales You really made it too easy To get the goods on you But any way you look at it Dear, you and I are through Terri Lyn Stanfield 12/2/2001
Burning Desire You set my blood on fire Just by walking into the room From the instant you enter my line of sight Everything else just ceases to be My whole existence shrinks down to only you Yet you cross the room completely unaware That you are everything I desire I'm told you're shy, and so am I But I grow bolder with every sight of you Soon I will throw my self restraint aside I will make you burn for me And together we will set the night on fire Terri Lyn Stanfield 1/5/2002
