The Poems of
Terri Lyn Stanfield
Solitude

Just go away
Leave me alone
I like it here
All on my own
I don't want you
Bothering me
You weren't invited
Why can't you see
I'm not lonely
I'm not insane
But I find you
Just so inane
And not just you
But everyone
Gets on my nerves
I need no one
No companions
No day time friends
Night time lovers
No wild weekends
I just want to
Be left alone
So go away
Just run along
And don't come back
Don't send someone
Don't call either
Let me be blunt
Solitude is
What I desire
No company
No handsome squire
No mindless chats
No repartee
I don't want to
Come out and play
Not now, not soon
Not ever, please
Just go away
Leave me in peace

Let Me

I wanted to help out
But you wouldn't let me
Saying that you wanted
Only to forget me
It's true that I couldn't
Remain as your lover
But does that have to mean
We rebuff each other
I do care about you
You are special to me
We could be such great friends
If you would let it be
And now, when you're in need
Why won't you let me in
I only want to help
Don't refuse me again
I know you're still hurting
And I'm sorry for that
But I know you so well
Won't you let me be at
Your side while you need me
Let me hold to your hand
Let me take care of you
I can be a good friend
There is love between us
And there always will be
So don't turn me away
For you can count on me

A Real Man

You flex your muscles
And the girls all swoon
And your self image
Is over the moon
Inflated ego
And perfected tan
You are the perfect
Neanderthal  man
You think that women
Are your private toys
Just one more thing to
Show off to the boys
The mindless bimbos
That you squire around
When you're on the beach
And out on the town
Are perfect partners
For the likes of you
Because their image
Is self centered too
I'll have to admit
That it is a sight
Bodies beautiful
Together at night
But you're arrogant
And self absorbed too
You expect all eyes
To be glued to you
You have not an ounce
Of humility
Your whole creed in life
Is, "Hey, look at me!"
Well, let me tell you
I've looked, and big deal
Give me somebody
Who knows how to feel
Who knows how to love
And how to give too
Give me a real man
And just forget you
