Raegan "Little Ruler" Sticken
My name is Raegan Lynn Sticken.  I was born in St. Joseph, MO on July 31, 2001 at Heartland Hospital to Chris & Rachelle Sticken.. I weighed 6 lbs.2 oz. and 18 1/2 inches long.  Little did mommy and daddy know, I was going to be a special little girl.  I was delivered by Dr. Fast, very fast in 10 minutes.  Dr. Douglas Evans was the doctor on call
that day.  His vast experience and medical knowledge saved my life!  That was the beginning of my journey.

Dr. William Drake, Cardiologist at Children's Mercy being examined by me.
MY JOURNEY
I was life-flighted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Children's Mercy Hospital.  We were met by Dr. William Drake (pictured above), one of the
best doctors we've ever met.  He explained to my parents that I had Tetralogy of Fallot, Pulmonary Atresia, Ventricular Septal Defect, Atrial Septal Defect, Patent Ductus Arteriosis, & DiGeorge Syndrome.  I was discharged and 3 months later had my first heart surgery.  Dr. Gary Lofland, Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Children's Mercy Hospital performed a Median Sternotomy, Unifocalization, placement of right ventricle to pulmonary artery conduit, and a subtotal thymectomy.  I was taken to the ICU in critical condition.  Two months later, I was discharged.  After my January cardiology appointment, we learned that my vessels were not growing.  We were told to wait it out, but my parents couldn't wait.  My records were referred to
Dr. Frank Hanley, Cardiothoracic surgeon at Stanford Medical Center/Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.  He immediatly accepted me and I was on my way to California.  I have had three surgeries under Dr. Hanley from 2002-2005 which included unifocalizations, RV-PA conduit repair,  and VSD closure.  Since then, I have been surgery free.  We would like to thank Dr. Hanley & his wondeful staff for taking such great care of us.  We would also like to thank Dr. Drake, Diane, Pam, Dr. Kaine, & the rest of the cardiac staff at Children's Mercy.  Keep your fingers crossed that I won't require any surgeries for quite a while.
