The Chris Top 5 Albums of 2003!!!

The White Stripes - Elephant
I know eveyone keeps talking about how this is one of the best rock albums ever put out, but I don't know....I mean I love it, but it only makes #5 here.
It's also too cool that they recorded this in two weeks on an 8-track.  Very cool in an overproduced day and age. I love the raw "post-punk" feel.
This disc also has  the only song I've ever heard that mentions Wichita (7 nation Army).  That always reminded me of my little sister.  The bass line is also one of the coolest I have ever heard.
Give this disc a listen if you haven't already.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs -
Fever to Tell
This is a cool band that I heard about when I was in New York a couple of years ago.  They were all the rage with an EP they had out then.  I never got a chance to see them while I was there but I got this disc and loved it.
Karen O has a voice that changes between terror and beauty.  The sound is raw and melodic. Between the evil of "Man" and the groove of "Modern Romance" this adds up to a great buy!

Death Cab for Cutie -
Transatlanticism
I'd heard of this band for a while but never really checked them out until recently.  This was actualy the first cd I listened to in 2004.  I mean the first song is called "new year" it was very appropriate.
A friend of mine played the disc for me a little while back and I totally got into it after hearing it.  Song 3 ("title and registration") is just the coolest take on something as benign as a glove box.  The disc is great, if not a little depressing.
These guys will bee all over the radio soon...I promise!!

Belle and Sebastian -
Dear Catastrophe Waitress
OK....now we are at number 2....numbers 5-3 were tough choices....I mean a bunch of music was released in 2003.  Number 1 & 2 were very easy choices.
This band is one of the most ridiculously talented and strangest bands you may never hear.  I have been just trippin' on the crazy difference between every song on this cd.  The title track should be on the radio but won't be.  It is pop, funny, deep, and insanely catchy.
My favorite song though is " Piazza New York Catcher".  I play this on guitar at home every day and laugh so hard while singing it that I know it's a folkish masterpiece.  Not to mention they're from Glasgow, and we all know nothing bad comes out of Glasgow  :)

The Shins -
Chutes Too Narrow
  Obsessed...Obsessed.....Obsessed!!
This is the first CD since Parachutes by Coldplay to totally captivate me in this way.  I have hardly listened to anything else since this CD came out.
Everyday I have a new favorite song on this disc.  "young pilgrims" and  "pink bullets" are the two songs I've been playing eveyday on guitar, so I suppose they are kind of my favorites right now.
This band has every type of song you can think of on this CD.  They are a mix of everything....and I mean everything.  Like  The Beach Boys, The Zombies, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Janes Addiction, The Cure, Cracker, Etc.  This is a MUST hear!  It is the best thing I've heard in 3 or 4 years.  Seriously...you must listen to this.
