HOTSPOTS WEST:(of Detroit!)
   YPSILANTI,
       MICHIGAN!!
LEFT: CP-YPSI
RIGHT: Amtrak 350 was passing east on the Main, through Ypsilanti Michigan, and kicking up snow as it goes past the historic Ypsilanti Depot
ML441 made an appearance Westbound, after Amtrak passed the double track section east of CP-YPSI. I was standing on the porch of the farmers' market when I tool this shot. I was pleased that this train had a Conrail Engine in the lead. February 2000
YPSILANTI, is a small, historical town 10 miles west of Wayne, MI.  Here, there is only one track and one railroad, NS (former CONRAIL), but there are a few very scenic photopoints to choose from ni the town. The best place to take a shot of a train is by the Ypsilanti station (under restoration [has been that way for a long, long, time]) opposite from the station is the Ypsilanti freight house. (pictures below, maps at bottom of page) Although the track is single, it has the effect of still being double tracked because  the former Eastbound main track is now an industrial that parallels the main in the downtown area, and ends on the other side of Main Street. The downtown area is on th West side of the Tracks. There are a few good restaurants and stores to shop, or whatever, while you wait for a train.

As you can clearly tell, Ypsilanti  rail traffic is dominated by Amtrak 6 times a day.  If you go there, (unless you know ahead of time) you might be sitting for hours to see a train. I went there during the winter, and saw 2 trains in an hour, but it was  VERY dead after that, so be prepared, bring a good scanner!
